AdemUner
My name is AdemUner and I’m currently a 4th year. Clubs and societies are the heart and soul of ICSM. This medical school has such a diverse choice of clubs and societies giving every student the opportunity to achieve and excel in a given area and escape the stresses of medicine.
Ever since the beginning of my time at ICSM I have tried my best to involve myself within this massive part of medical school. This year I have been club captain for the football club, a role I have thoroughly enjoyed. I feel this experience, including welcoming freshers, organising finances of a large club and organising fixtures, would help me in working with established clubs and societies. Over the past few years I have also involved myself in the opera society, the fashion show and the tennis club. I also plan to join the cricket club this year.
With the 12.5% decrease in grant money from ICU set for next year, I would fight to represent ICSM at meetings to ensure this drop did not further increase. I would like to work closely with clubs and societies to increase the fundraising opportunities within our union to help ease the strains of this cut.
I’m very passionate about ICSM and it would be a privilege to represent the medical school. I would work my hardest to ensure all clubs and societies receive what they deserve and also do my very best to sort out any problems they might have.

So, why have I decided to run for Clubs and Societies Officer?
Well, the highlights of my last 2 years have without doubt been all the activities and events associated with the ICSM Clubs and Societies. Being Clubs and Socs Officer would give me the perfect opportunity to get more involved, but more importantly fight the medic’s corner against the power that is IC.
Despite the fact that I’ve only been at ICSM for 2 years I have managed to get involved in a large range of the amazing clubs and societies on offer. As well as being a dedicated member of the hockey club I have been involved in the Jazz band as part of ICSM music society, light opera backstage and squash. Being on RAG committee this year I have gained experience in raising sponsorship from difficult and unwilling companies and an insight into running successful events.
A good relationship with IC is essential considering they are in control of our budgets and I feel my involvement in ICRadio has given me an insight into the workings of an IC club and has helped me already build relationships in this network.
I think that 3rd year is a prime opportunity to hold a position like this because I will have the time to do the best job possible. Being young is not a disadvantage -
I will be efficient, enthusiastic and reliable as well as being completely dedicated to the job.
