GENERAL BUSINESS

  • Letter from Lilydale PC re: Reckless riding has been tabled – discussion concentrated on several points as follows:
  • Rider was not singled out – at least 1 more rider was also penalised and another would have been eliminated, in the crosscountry phase if she was not already eliminated in show jumping.
  • Riders need to be taught to ride at a correct speed (generally same speed as for showjumping should be used)
  • Officials to be easily identified is a good idea. Suggested that either flag or vests are used
  • Peter Smith reminded the meeting that penalty can be imposed even is rider is not stopped.
  • Penalty may be imposed by person other than the official on the day eg. Zone Representative, PCAV official etc.
  • Wendy Olejnik also commented about parents attitude – competitiveness seems to be more important than any other considerations. This should be discouraged by the clubs.
  • Action - Jim Hurley proposed that zone acquire 10 safety type vests for officials identification. These will be made available to the clubs when not used by the zone. – seconded Linda Smith.
  • "Speed to Safety" –
  • Training sessions have not be organised due to lack of interest. Unless 10+ riders will commit to attend all sessions zone will not run any training sessions and will not be represented at the finals at Flemington in September. Entries to Zone Secretary by 20th June.
  • Peter Smith requested that clubs check their details to be published in Zone Directory.
  • Jim Hurley spoke about our zone AGM to be held on 10th August. Clubs to consider nominations for zone office bearers.
