Nature and Purpose of this charity

The Bridge to Life is a Pregnancy Counseling and Material Assistance Center.

Our mission is to provide informative, honest and compassionate counseling to empower women dealing with pregnancy about their options, as well as extend hands of help through material assistance in order for them to raise their child.

In 2014, our material assistance program served thousands of individuals – primarily women and children. We are very volunteer reliant. We presently have one full-time employee and two part-time employees.

Tasks Available for Students:

Sort clothes and other baby items and distribute them to clients.

Flushing - Help with clients (primarily mothers and their children) on Wed. 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

**Flushing location - Always closed on Wednesday and Monday hours vary**

Astoria – Tue./Thur. 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m.

Projects available for Students:

Students interested in working on any of the projects listed below can contact Michael Schaefer and schedule service seven days a week.

·  Create of a client database/network for Flushing and Astoria

·  Assist in researching and writing grant proposals.

·  Raising funds/marketing/running our annual gala on April 17, 2016

·  Organize baby showers for mothers.

·  Assist with our quarterly newsletter (i.e. contribute anything creative to help with outreach to young women and donors)

·  Assist our Webmaster and Director of Development with the creation of a web site for clients like this one: http://www.compasscare.info/

Take the Q46 Bus on Union Turnpike West to 164th Street. Transfer to Q65 Bus North on 164th Street to 45 Ave. & 149 Street. Walk North Westside of 149 Street to narrow driveway – next to The Lutheran Church of St. John (Between Ash Avenue and Sanford Avenue) (0.4 miles). The driveway leads to parking lot. The center is on the 2nd floor of a three-story house above a child care center. You will find a great picture of the house if you visit Google Maps web site and type in our address.

Please enter via our back entrance (up a steel flight of stairs in the parking lot).

Take the Q46 Bus on Union Turnpike to Union Turnpike Station for the E Train. Take the E Train to Queens Plaza. Take Q69 Bus to Astoria Blvd. OR the N Train to Hoyt Avenue Station. Walk on Astoria Blvd. about 4 blocks to Crescent Street

The center is located in the basement of the Catholic Charities building. The entrance is on Crescent Street.

Driving Directions

Flushing: Go west on Union Turnpike to 164 Street. Turn right on 164th Street (North) to 46 Avenue (2-¼ miles). Turn left on 46 Avenue (West) to 149 Street (0.4 miles). Turn right on 149 Street (North) to a narrow driveway on the left – next to the Lutheran Church of St. John (between Ash Avenue and Sanford Avenue (0.5 miles).

The center is on the 2nd floor of the house at the end of the parking lot. Volunteers/staff climb the steel steps to the 2nd floor.

Astoria: Heading southwest toward 80th Road, turn right onto Grand Central Pkwy. Take the ramp on the left onto Grand Central Pkwy (GCP) West toward Triboro Bridge. After approximately 8 miles, GCP West becomes I-278 East/RFK Bridge East. Take exit 45 toward 31st St. Merge onto Astoria Blvd. Take the first left onto 31st St. Turn right at the 2nd cross street onto Astoria Blvd.

The center is on the left, located in the basement of the Catholic Charities building. The entrance is on Crescent Street. Parking is often available in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church’s parking lot.
