Grace Crossing, a CommunityChurch of Christ

Summer Mission Trip – Honduras 2014

Schedule and Organization:

  1. Dates: July21 (Monday) – July 28(Monday)
  2. We will be joined by brothers and sisters from Conroe, Cross Bridge in Birmingham and Cross Walk in Little Rock in addition to our family here at Grace Crossing.

Cost:

  1. Right now we are estimating $1,450.00 as total cost. This will cover all trip expenses including air fare, ground transportation, hotels, meals, water, snacks, etc. (we expect each team member to raise his own expenses).
  2. Nearly all expenses will be pre-paid on this trip. However, you should bring $50-$75 of pocket money.

Mission Objectives:

  1. Expose our members to the foreign mission field.
  2. Show our family practical applications of Jesus Christ’s commission to love people.
  3. Help all of us discover whom God made us to be in service to Him.
  4. Strengthen and encourage local congregations.
  5. Demonstrate Jesus’ love to people of Honduras.
  6. Build a bond between the Church in the US and the Church in Honduras.

Mission Activities:

  1. We will be working closely with the Mission Lazarus team and the local churchesin Morcovia (Renacer Morcovia, Monjaras, Cedeno and Boca del Rio Viejo) where our group has worked closely for several years. Our major project is still being finalized, but likely we will be building either community facilities, or homes in one of our sister communities. We will also be putting on VBS, distributing food and clothing, and direct evangelism. We will make our “base camp” at the Mission Lazarus Ranch, Refuge and headquarters in Jayacayan. We will work closely with the members of the Morcovia Churches and spend time with the Mission Lazarus team who are running clinics and schools in the region.

Individual Requirements:

  1. At least completed 10th grade unless accompanied by at least one parent. Families are encouraged to come together regardless of the ages of children although the trip is likely not suitable for young children. We suggest junior high or older.
  2. Valid passport with an expiration date at least six months after our departure (i.e. your passport must expire no earlier than February 2015).
  3. Medical shots: You need to have current Hepatitis A, Hepatitis B (this is a one time series of three shots spaced out over time, so you need to get started on these if you don’t have them already), Tetanus, Thyphoid (optional). Malaria prevention is a series of pills. We use a medicine called Chloroquin which we obtain in Honduras and make available to all team members.
  4. You must raise your own travel expenses ($1,450.00). Please refer to the attached “Individual Fund Raising Notes” for more information.
