  1. The purpose of Munford’s Academy Soccer League is to provide leisure activity for the area youth. The program is designed for exercise, learning, fellowship, and fun.
  2. The Rules of the Game will mirror those that are established for United States Soccer Federation for the following reasons:
  3. The children will benefit from your Coaching when you teach the game per the rules established.
  4. Some of the children will continue playing Soccer on greater venues such as Middle School, High School, Competitive, etc. these venues utilize USSF Rules of the Game.
  5. Uniformity within game play.
  6. All teams will be Co-Ed.
  7. Normally we will make up rain-out games and can make-up practice if needed. Coaches will receive a call/text for a ruling and can call 837-5965 for a recording @ 7:30am on Saturdays & 3:30pm during the week.
  8. Rules will be governed by the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). The following are local league exceptions:

Age Divisions

  • U4 -2015 Birth Year
  • U6 -2014-2013 Birth Year
  • U8 -2012-2011 Birth Year
  • U10 -2010-2009 Birth Year
  • U13 -2005-2008 Birth Year
  • U19 -2000-2004 Birth Year

Ball Size

  • U4, U6, & U8-size 3
  • U10 & U14-size 4
  • U18-size 5

Duration of Play

  • U4, 4-five minute quarters, 5 minute half-time
  • U6, 4-eight minute quarters, 5 minute half-time
  • U8, 4-ten minute quarters, 5 minute half-time
  • U10,2 twenty-five minute halves, 5 minute half-time
  • U14, 2 thirty minute halves, 5 minute half-time
  • U18, 2 forty minute halves, 5 minute half-time

Players on the Field

U4- 4 v 4 no goalie

U6- 5 v 5 no goalie

U8- 5 v 5 no goalie

U10- 7 v 7 with goalie

U14- 9 v 9 with goalie

U18- 11 v 11 (min of 9 v 9) with goalie

Every player must get equal playing time and play 50% of the game

Offside/Slide Tackles/Heading/Punting/Build out Lines Rules

  • U4, U6, & U8: no offside, no slide tackles, no heading the ball, no punting, no high kicks
  • U10: yes off sides, no slide tackles, no punting, Build out Lines (additional handout with details), no high kicks, no heading the ball
  • U14: yes off sides, no slide tackles, punting allowed, heading of the ball permitted, no high kicks
  • U18: yes off sides, no slide tackles, heading of the ball permitted, punting allowed, no high kicks

Overtime (No Overtime in U4, U6, & U8)

  • All age groups shall have one 5-minute overtime in the event of a tie, after which the following will occur:
  • Golden Rule: First to score in overtime wins.
  • No score in over time we will have a shoot-out.
  • 5 players (last playing on the field) willconduct one round of a shoot-out.
  • The goalie shall be considered a shooter.
  • After the shoot-out, if no team has outscored the other, a tie will be declared.

Yellow/Red Cards

  • Yellow card- warning with a 5 minute cool down period (Player must sit out for 5 min and then can resume play)
  • Subs are allowed to replace this player
  • Red Card- Sit out the rest of the current game along with the next scheduled game.
  • Subs are NOT allowed to replace this player

Females can cover chest area in all leagues without a hand ball infraction as long as it is not intentional

Equipment/Uniforms

  • Jerseys and socks will be provided and must be worn by all players/Goalies should wear a different color from either team.
  • Rostersheet lists everychild’s size; please ensure they get the size they ordered.
  • All coaching staff should wear their coaching shirt at every game and for pictures. Player shirts must be tucked in for games.
  • Shin-Guards are mandatory/cleats are optional;no metal cleats may be worn.
  • No jewelry, metal, hard objects, or casts maybe worn during play.

Players and coaches must sit on the opposite side of the field from the spectators & each player must check in at mid-field. Coaches are encouraged to share this information with the parents on their team. Only coaches, assistants, and players are allowed in the bench area.

Any problems or complaints must be submitted in writing the next business day to the Director of Parks and Recreation or to the Sports Coordinator for the Recreation to be reviewed. No phone calls will be considered.
