POST: Assistant Accountant GRADE: 5
SERVICE AREA:Finance and Corporate Services
JOB PURPOSE:To provide accountancy and administrative support within Financial Services.
RESPONSIBLE TO:Senior Accountant
RESPONSIBLE FOR:None
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To assist nominated budget holders in the management of their budgets and provide monitoring information including management accounts as appropriate and within agreed timescales.
- To assist in the preparation and monitoring of revenue and capital budgets.
- To assist in the preparation of statutory accounts.
- To maintain the fixed asset register, to comply with component accounting requirements, in-line with the company’s fixed asset policy.
- To be responsible for the reconciliation of control accounts within agreed timescales.
- To be responsible for the day-to-day administration of the treasury management/cashflow activities, including preparing payment files.
- To undertake the day-to-day administration of the accounting software including the maintenance and management of the coding system.
- To complete Supporting People, Homes and Community Agency and other statutory returns as necessary.
- To be responsible for the maintaining records to ensure all Supporting People income is collected. To monitor the income and ensure that all discrepancies are investigated appropriately and action taken.
- To maintain records and undertake reconciliation of Service Charges to ensure all appropriate costs are recoverable.
- To provide financial information for bids for new business, for review by the Senior Accountant.
- To attend meetings and working groups as required.
- To administer the leasing arrangements for other supplies and services as directed by the Senior Accountant.
- To compile performance management and statistical data as appropriate and within agreed timescales.
- To be responsible for managing own workload and prioritisingwork to ensure deadlines are met.
- To ensure office is covered between core working hours of 9-5.
- To be proactively involved in the work of a Corporate Group, in order to make an effective contribution to the successful achievement of the group’s aims and objectives.
- Any other duties laid down from time to time consistent with the grading of the post.

EXPERIENCE:
1. / Practical accountancy experience with a registered social landlord or similar environment. / D / A/I
2. / Minimum of two years experience of financial administration and routine accountancy working. / E / A/I
3. / Experience in using finance accounting systems. / E / A/I
4. / Experience in using Microsoft excel and Microsoft Word. / E / A/S
