6. / Resources / Food, water, and oxygen that animals compete for
7. / Competition / Occurs when two or more living things need the same things to live

Answer the following questions.

Lesson 4:

8. List 2 adaptations that the chameleon has that helps it survive in its ecosystem. How do these helps the chameleon?

1. long tongue that stretches to catch insects

2. camouflage to help it blend in for protection

9. What is an adaptation that a sundew plant has that helps provide it with nutrients? Why is this adaptation necessary?

They have a sticky goo that snares (traps) insects, which provide the plant with nutrients; this is necessary because they live in areas with poor soil that doesn’t contain the nutrients they need

10. The flower of a bee orchid looks like a bee. How does this help the plant?

It helps attract insects so the flower can be pollinated

Lesson 5:

11. What are the 3 most common resources that animals compete for?

Food, water, and oxygen

12. What are some ways that humans change their environment?

1. build homes (cut down trees)

2. use chemicals to get rid of certain animals

11. Are changes to the environment always harmful? Why or why not?

Some changes are harmful but others are helpful. For example, a beaver dam harms animals that need streams, but it helps plants and animals that need ponds to survive.
