Dear Coach Newberry:
My name is Mary G. Smith and I am currently a Junior at Home Town High school. I am looking forward to attending an exceptional [college-or-university Name] like [college name] that would be the best fit for me to continue my education. As an athlete, I am also very determined to continue my softball career at the collegiate level.
I have already done some preliminary research on [name College] and I would appreciate it if you could forward me some additional information on your schools academic requirements, majors offered and of course your softball program.
As a very active and committed player, I have gained considerable exposure and skill development at a wide range of positions, principally pitching, middle infield, and outfield. I am headed into my 5th year as member of the Pittsburgh area Metro Express travel softball team. This past summer, my sophomore year, I moved up to play at the 18u division. Even when I was not pitching, I was always kept on the field. Throughout the season, I batted in either the 1st, 2nd, or 3rd spot in the lineup with a .000 batting average and a .000 on base percentage. I am an accomplished line drive hitter who also has been known to get a hold of one and hit for power!
I will be a participant at this year’s Queen of Diamonds Showcase on January 5-6, 20XX and will also be attending the NFCA exposure camp on July 12, 20XX in Toledo, OH. I would be greatly appreciated if you would come and watch me compete in these quality evens or in one of the other tournaments my travel team will attend this summer which are listed on the attached schedule.
I have enclosed a picture of myself, but not in softball gear mind you, we all tend to look the same! I am also working on my skills tape and it should be available shortly.
