My Title for the Section: The True Story of Alaska Young’s Death

Characters: Colonel, Pudge, Takumi, Lara, Jake, Mr. Miles, Eagle

Setting (time and place): At the Culver Creek during the beginning of second semester, around January to March.

Conflict: The Colonel and Pudge wondered and argue about what actually happened to Alaska: whether she committed suicide or was it really and accident. To find out, they decide to look for what happened by themselves and started to do experiments.

Tone: The tone of this part is very adventurous; the Colonel and Pudge sets up plans and does experiments by being in the mood or condition of Alaska at that time.

Events: After Alaska’s sudden death, the Colonel and Pudge start to calm down but still feel guilty and sad about it. As a result, they started to wonder if Alaska really died of an accident or did she commit suicide. The Colonel suggested that they ask Jake about anything he knows about the incident. However, Pudge, who feels jealous about the relationship between Alaska and Jake, did not want to know about what happened to Alaska and Jake’s relationships and argues against Colonel. They both get mad at each other but eventually, Pudge apologizes and decides to help Colonel find out what actually happened to Alaska. When Pudge ran outside of the store, he remembered his good memories of Alaska and realized that he wanted to know more about Alaska and decides that if he really cares about Alaska, he should try finding out what happened to Alaska. As the Colonel and Pudge try to find clues and figure out things, Takumi decides to join and help them. After when Takumi joins the team, the Colonel and Pudge decides to steal a breathalyzer from the Eagle’s room to perform an experiment. They knew that Alaska was drunk at that time, so the Colonel decides to get drunk as much as Alaska did, 0.24. Through this experiment, it showed that Alaska was able to see the police car so she either fell asleep or committed suicide. After this experiment, the Colonel and Takumi decides to tell him about everything about the relationship between Pudge and Alaska; they were having affairs and kissing each other the day Alaska died. Now, they wanted to know where Alaska was going to so they decides to call Jake about whether she tried to go their or not. The phone call of Jake showed some clues about the moments right before Alaska’s death. After few days of the experiment, Pudge discovers a doodling of Alaska at the place that have all the phones when talking to his mother. That was an indication of where Alaska would have tried to go. The doodling was about flowers that would remind her something. In addition to this discovery, it was shown later on that Alaska’s death was Alaska’s suicide. If she tried to live, she should have tried to make a turn but she drove straight when she saw the police car. It was clear that Alaska Young had committed suicide.
