PRESS RELEASE
LISA HANCOCK to JOIN I.J.F.
The trustees of the Injured Jockeys Fund are pleased to announce that Lisa Hancock will be joining the Fund as Deputy Chief Executive on the 2nd January.
Lisa, 37, is one of only a handful of women to have run one of Britain’s major racecourses. When she took charge at Newmarket in October 2000 she was also the youngest ever Managing Director of a major UK racecourse.
Lisa said – “I’ve always been passionate about the IJF and am delighted at the prospect of becoming involved with racings oldest, most important and most widely appreciated charity…… I have huge respect for John Oaksey, the trustees and the work they do.”
Lisa will be based at the IJF HQ in Newmarket and will work two days a week in support of Jeremy Richardson.
Jeremy said – “My involvement with the IJF goes back nearly 40 years. Having carefully husbanded its resources over that time and, more importantly, watch it develop from a tiny charitable trust of £30k, with eight injured jockeys, to a large national charity of £30m with 1,000 jockeys, there are few people to whom I would be happy to handover, but Lisa is one of them. Getting her is a big coup for the IJF. We are very lucky.”
Brough Scott, Chairman of the IJF (and a trustee for 30 years) said –
“Lisa is one of the most talented people in racing. I have huge admiration for her work at Warwick, Haydock and Newmarket and we are all thrilled that she will be part of our future.”
“The arrangements we have made will ensure the IJF does not lose its ethos in the provision of care to injured jockeys, that it continues to provide support for the nine Almoners and provides a strategy to cover the ultimate loss of Jeremy Richardson. We believe the steps we have taken will achieve this and, as importantly, will ensure continuity and security for our staff and all our beneficiaries.”
