The meeting was called to order, at 2:00 p.m. by President Louise Ulan. The minutes were not available so Louise asked that members read the minutes, on NING, and send any corrections to her. Lucia McKeeby was absent from the meeting so the Treasurer’s Report was tabled until the next meeting in March.
Carol LaSalle from St. Mary’s in PomptonLakes spoke to the group about the AdvancED. process. The principals are being asked to work on one of the 7 standards and the principals are meeting once a month to accomplish this goal. Ms. LaSalle thanked all of the teachers in the diocese for participating in the surveys and stated that teachers will be working on action plans for the AdvancED this spring. The survey results are being processed and the principals will use this data to see how the diocese is moving towards accreditation. In April of 2012 the Advanced ED teams will be visiting several schools in the diocese. The schools to be visited have yet to be announced.
We are seeking a speaker for the October 19, 2011 workshop. The workshop will be held at the MolloyCenter from 4-5:00 p.m.
John Eriksen was unable to attend the meeting and Mary Baier was asked to represent the administration at this meeting. There were several topics discussed. One of the important topics discussed was the increasing presence of special needs children in our classrooms and how teachers work hard to answer the needs of these children. Ms. Baier thanked the teachers of the diocese for their dedication to Catholic education. She reminded the teachers that if the ISP recommends an in-class aide, the parents need to be encouraged to go to their town’s school district to request such an aide. Ms. Baier advised us to contact Ken Mullaney should we encounter any questions about legal matters.
Louise asked for a motion for the meeting to be adjourned. Elizabeth Oda and Jill Butkus were first and second members to make the motion and the meeting was adjourned at 3:30.
Respectfully submitted,
Robin Kirkner
