EGHAM CC COLTS SECTION REPORT 2015

Another season has come and gone and now we only have the memories to get us through the dark winter nights. However there are always many happy memories associated with the Colts section and this year was no exception.

The season has been a difficult one in terms of participation numbers across Surrey which meant that there were a number of games unfulfilled in the Under 17’s and especially the Under 15’s. The Under 13’s did start slowly but numbers picked up and they did qualify for the Ray Denne final which sadly was not played. Our Under 11’s played a long season and their numbers were extremely strong.

Neil Herbert took charge of both the Under 17’s and 15’s, Richard Cutler the 13’s and Jamie Hamilton the 11’s, and a big thank you goes to those 3.

Although Monday’s seemed to always have some kind of rain, only 3 of them were lost to bad weather and membership numbers swelled to close to 100 which was a very welcome increase to the previous year. It’s also especially pleasing to see the number of Under 9’s that have joined the club.

Thanks must be given to all the coaches who gave up their time on Mondays and also to organise the games. There could now follow a long list of the people who have helped. You all know who you are and I am exceedingly grateful. Without your help we would not have a successful colts section.

Thanks as always to everyone in the club for wickets, bar and general support. Special thanks to Allison Arraiol in her first year as Welfare Officer and especially our Secretary Carole Wright who has done an outstanding job. I am sure there will be people I have not thanked by name but that is not to say that I am most grateful for all the help and support that has been given to the colts this year.

But my last thank you goes to Mark Kaltner who has provided invaluable help and guidance during the year and for also being my eyes and ears on Monday’s to make sure that everything is run smoothly and most importantly safely.

Congratulations to all the colts that played senior cricket with many special mentions on their performances. From our Under 14’s Ryan Suckling regularly played in the 2’s and Connor Hawes scored a couple of 50’s including 80 for the 4’s. From Our Under 15’s George Hermon scored 50’s in both the 3’s & 4’s, Billy Herbert’s early season wickets in the 4’s earnt him regular 3’s cricket where his excellent all round displays brought him into the 2’s for a brief period. From our Under 16’s our new recruit Matt Cooper scored 96 for the 4’s on debut and then held down a regular 2nd team berth. Finally, our Under 18’s were well represented with Michael Hawes and Jamie Scudder holding down a regular 2nd team place and William Brown playing many games in the 1’s.

Special congratulations to George Hermon on winning the Ray Denne Achievement award and Billy Herbert on winning the Geoff and Mary Bell award.

Finally, I would like to thank all the parents for their help and for their increased participation in social events at the club.

Yet again the colts section has had a successful year and provides the foundations for the future of the club. Be proud of Egham CC and support the club in any way you can. It is your club and the future is in your hands.
