PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Course - Gulf Shores, AL

The SouthwestAlabamaLawEnforcementAcademy in conjunction with the NortheastAlabamaLawEnforcementAcademy is presenting a 40-hour PPCT Defensive Tactics Instructor Course. The course will begin at 9:00 am at the Gulf State ParkActivity Center, Gulf Shores, AL. Following days begin at 8:00 am.

This cost for this course is $200.00. The tuition will cover the instructor notebook, materials, handouts, lesson plan, refreshments, etc. Please make checks payable to the SouthwestAlabamaLawEnforcementAcademy.

The goal of this instructor course is to identify and test principles that can be employed by law enforcement officers when the need for subject control techniques arises. This class will also present to the student instructor the knowledge and techniques needed to enable him/her to instruct these same principles and tactics to other law enforcement officers.

The objectives of this course are as follows:

  • Teach officers to defend against common resistance.
  • Teach techniques of subject control to gain compliance with the least chance of injury to the subject, but with the officer's safety as the most important factor.
  • Teach techniques with impact weapons that will be aimed at impeding a subject by striking areas with a lesser chance of causing permanent damage or severe injury to the offender.
  • Teach techniques for defending against an attack on the weapon while it is holstered or drawn, and techniques for disarming a subject who is holding the officer at gunpoint.
  • Reduce the need to use excessive force in controlling a subject, thereby reducing liability.
  • Instill in officers the self-confidence to defend themselves against an attack.
  • Teach officers the knowledge, skills, and techniques they need in order to teach the above objectives to other officers.

  • Handcuffing
  • Joint Manipulations
  • Pressure Points
  • Defensive Counterstrikes
  • Vascular Neck Restraints
  • Impact Weapons (Straight & Expandable Batons)
  • Weapon Retention

To successfully complete this course, each student will be required to take a proficiency exam and a written exam. The student instructor will have to demonstrate an acceptable level of proficiency in all the techniques on the proficiency exam. The passing requirement for the written test is an 80% or better on a written exam consisting of "fill in the blank" type questions.

Students who successfully complete all testing requirements will receive instructor certification from PPCT Management Systems, Inc. Any student not successfully completing the requirements will receive a certificate of attendance from the Academy.

Student instructors attending this course should bring the following equipment/clothing:

  • Soft soled gym shoes
  • Suitable active wear that offers freedom of movement
  • Leather gear with handcuffs and weapon (no ammo)
