2017 Fall Registration Information

Welcome!

Following is an outline of programs being offered this fall. We ask all parents registering to complete an application and selection form for all programs. Forms can be dropped off, mailed or emailed to the centre. Please refer to the following outline when making your program selections.

Please note - Programs with an (R) require pre-registration. J

Your Fall registration package includes -

1.) an application form (please complete, whether you are either a new family or a returning family) and

2.) a program selection form.

Please return both of these forms by Thursday, September 7th.

Fall Programs will begin Monday, September 18th and end Friday December 8th.

(You will be contacted by telephone the week of September 11th to confirm your choices).

Program Descriptions - All programs have an underlying priority of focusing

on healthy living (physical, cognitive, emotional and social development).

1.  FamilyTime Drop-In (Sackville Legion) – Monday 9:30-11:00. This outreach program is intended for families who find it difficult to come to the centre. Community outreach work is an important part of our work. Join us for a morning of fun.

2.  Monday Evening Walking Club – Monday – 6:30pm. Don’t like the outdoors? Want to be active? Bring your water bottle and sneakers and join us for a fun half hour of moving (walking inside to a video). A great way to work out, have fun and get fit. J

3.  Public Health Drop-In (Babies 0-12 months) – TIME CHANGE -

Beginning September 19 - Tuesday 10am-12pm – Come join us for a morning of fun and sharing. After meeting with the Public Health nurse, families are encouraged to stay for BabyTime and connect with other families in the PlayShop.

4.  Drop-In – Tuesday & Thursday 2:00-4:00. An opportunity for all family members to enjoy the

centre. Adults and children can spend time in the PlayShop exploring and connecting. The clothing

depot and swap shop are available on a rotational basis to parents while children remain in the PlayShop.

5. Prenatal Classes (R) – Tuesday 7:00-9:00 (Starting September 12th). This program is for expectant

mothers and a partner/ support person. The series is modeled on a program developed with parents and

focuses on ”Things I wish I had known”, as well as labor and delivery, breastfeeding and a virtual tour of the

IWK Grace Hospital. If you or anyone you know is interested in participating, please contact Beth for more

information.

6. FamilyTime (R) – Wednesday 9:30-11:00. A program for parents and children (0-5) together in the PlayShop. Family Time is an entry program at the centre – a great opportunity to play with your children and connect with other parents.

7. Community Partner Programs (R) – Thursday 9:30-11:00. Join us for an opportunity to participate in a variety of workshops presented by community organizations (ex; the Community Health Team/Hearing and Speech etc.). Please see attached for workshop dates.

**Nobody’s Perfect Parenting Program (R) – Thursday 9:30-11:30 (Oct.19 - Nov. 30) is a program for parent with children 0-5. This program is designed to share information and have a discussion around the following topics - Behaviour/Body/Mind/Parents/Safety. Upon completion, participants will receive a 5-book resource filled with information on these topics.

8. Evening Parenting Programs (R) – Thursday 7:00-9:00 p.m. This program has been offered with great success over the past 23 years. A great opportunity to connect with other parents in a relaxed environment, while enhancing your parenting skills. Watch for promotion of sessions.

9. Family Resource Program Parent Advisory Committee (R) – Friday 9:30-11:00am. Join the committee and become more involved in the centre JThe Parent Advisory Committee meets once a week and provides input, support and guidance for the administration of the FRP programming.

Child care is provided in the PlayShop. Please see staff for more information.

10. Me and My Dad (R) – (Saturdays 10:00-12:00) will be offered every second Saturday

(September 16, 30/Oct. 14, 28/Nov.4 & 18/Dec 2). All Dads/partners/granddads/uncles and/or other male figures and children are welcome to visit the PlayShop and enjoy a morning of fun.

11. Memory Lane Family Place Preschool - (September 2017 - June 2018) – The Memory Lane Family

Place Preschool program is licensed by the Department of Community Services. The program is

offered to children starting school September, 2018. If you would like more information please

talk to staff.

**Please Note: Registration for Preschool - September, 2018 will begin in January, 2018.

12. Parent Craft Night - Tuesday November 21 (6:30) – Come join us to create a Christmas Craft.

Watch for details upstairs in the Breezeway.

Fall will be a busy time at the Family Place. Please check Facebook, the bulletin board in the breezeway, as well as the web site for information on any up-coming events. Quarterly newsletters with monthly calendars will be circulated to keep you informed.

GREAT OPPORTUNITY : The FRP Parent Advisory Committee

Is currently recruiting new members. This group meets on Friday mornings 9:30 - 11:00.

Child care is provided for preschool-age children in the PlayShop.

The committee provides feedback, guidance and support to the family resource programming. Members also sponsor/plan/volunteer for projects, programs and special events. Some members sit on the Association’s Board of Directors.

If you are involved in programs (CAPC, family support and or P.J.) and are interested in finding out more about the activities/scope of the committee and how much fun they have, please talk to staff J

Community Health Team Sessions

Toddlers at the Table

Meal times can be challenging with a toddler at the table. Join us to learn about healthy eating guidelines and tips for making mealtimes more enjoyable for everyone.

·  Thursday September 21 from 9:30-11:30am at Memory Lane Family Place (childcare available)

Physical Activity on a Budget

Learn and practice the many ways to be physically active with little or no cost in this single session! A participant physical activity screen is required. Please drop in no later than 5 business days before the program start date to complete the physical activity screening form.

Food & Mood

Have you ever thought about the connection between what you eat and how you feel? What’s good for your body is good for your mood! Join us to learn more.

My Child is Anxious Should I Worry?

Learn how to identify early signs of anxious feelings in your children and skills to help them manage everyday anxiety.
