Midway Wrangler Review

By Pat DeCastro

Our first and second term student council members attended the Student Council Leadership Conference at BYU last week. The students learn about leadership through networking, team building and including others. First and second term student council members include Audrey Burton, Peter Meuzelaar, Emma Lay, Miles Drennan, Anistyn Woolstenhulme, Brylee Bigelow, Carson Guymon, Zoie Frisby, Christina Slack, Sarah Witt, Kenton Christofferson, Wyatt Cummings, Briahna Wagstaff, Taylor Christen and Grace Wunder.

Our own Mr. Burnham was a presenter at the conference. His presentation is called the “Cool 2 Care Revolution.” He talks about people who speak out against human rights violations and how they became leaders. Students learned that every student has the basic right to feel safe, welcome and supported at school. Bullying, discrimination and harassment are human rights violations. Mr. Burnham asked them to become revolutionaries by being passionate about ending these problems.

Mr. Burnham is asking students and parents to join his revolution by going online to Facebook @ cool2care Revolution and liking his page. He has information there to implement safe school programs and support student efforts. “If you share my page with family and friends all over the nation we can truly start a revolution of change,” said Mr. Burnham. “There is power in numbers and many voices are much better than a few.”

We had a fun assembly last week to kick off Reflections. Mr. Nathan Jarvis, a local illustrator, came and spoke to the kids and helped them think creatively. Students submitting a Reflections entry will receive a small signed drawing from Mr. Jarvis.

Our 4th graders held a Wizard Math house sorting ceremony last Friday. Students have been working on multiplication and division math facts. As they reach certain goals, and pass off math facts they are “sorted” into groups. The groups are much like the houses in the sorting ceremony of the popular “Harry Potter” books.

Last Friday’s Midway spirit winner was Mrs. Olson’s 4th grade class, with 93% of the class showing spirit by wearing Midway t-shirts or Wrangler gear.

Remember that for Red Ribbon week tomorrow, Thursday October 24, is wear red day, and Friday, October 25 is crazy socks day.
