Thesis title: Design and Development of New Anti-Trypanosomal Agents.
Supervisors: Prof. Simon P. Mackay and Dr. Geoffrey Coxon.
Project: In this research we have used computer aided drug design and molecular modeling to design novel anti-trypanosomal agents to combat the human African trypanosomiasis. Ligand based drug design was used in finding the suitable chemical scaffold for the compounds being synthesized. These compounds were tested on the whole parasite in vitro and most of them have shown promising sub-micromolaractivites. The compounds having imidazole, benzimidazole, benzothiazole, indole and thiazole scaffolds.

Project: This work resulted in the synthesis of derivatives that had shown a promising activity against Candida albicans with minimum inhibitory activity reached to 16g with limited activity against bacteria, so they had a selective activity against fungi. Also during that work I did the microbiological testing by myself, which is the macrodilution susceptibility testing against Candida, Pseudomonas¸E.coli, and Bacillus following the NCCLS standards for that procedure.

Work Experiences:
- From 28th November till now: Assistant Professor in the faculty of Pharmacy, Philadelphia University:
Lecturing in Medicinal Chemistry topics (Medicinal Chemistry-1,2 and 3 in addition to drug design topics).
Supervising in the Medicinal Chemistry practical courses.
- Five semesters as part time lecturer (10/2005-6/2007) in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy department, faculty of Pharmacy, JUST. (Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry lab, Pharm 227, and Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry lab, Pharm 224). My responsibility was to teach the theoretical and the practical part of various laboratory experiments in organic and analytical chemistry techniques. Many techniques had been taught in those courses such as, distillation, extraction and recrystallization in addition to the use of some instrumental equipment, such as UV, NMR, IR and melting point apparatus.
- During the Master degree Study, I was working as teaching assistant for two years in Medicinal Chemistry and Pharmacognosy department, Faculty of Pharmacy, JUST. During that I supervised and demonstrated in Pharmaceutical Organic Chemistry lab, and Pharmaceutical Analytical Chemistry lab.
Other Experiences:
- I have a good knowledge in the use of most of the spectrometric analysis instruments including NMR, IR and UV. I worked in these devices during my master degree study, through my teaching experience and during my current PhD study.
- I have a good experience in how to biologically test certain compounds to find their Antimicrobial activities including the antibacterial and the antifungal activities, this by running the following methods:
Microdilution and macrodilution susceptibility testing.
Antibacterial Disc diffusion method.
Antibacterial Hole diffusion method.

- I am also proficient in a range of chemistry software including ChemDraw and ChemSkitch, Accelrys®visualizer, and Pymol®
