Constitution of Students Today Leaders Forever
Article I –Name and Purpose
Section 1: The official name of this organization shall be Students Today Leaders Forever.
Section 2: The club shall operate as a non-profit organization.
Section 3: The club shall abide by the applicable rules and policies of Iowa State University pertaining to student organizations.
Section 4: This organization shall exist to promote leadership skills through:
a. Proactive initiative and living with passion believing in the efficacy and worth of each individual student.
b. Various local philanthropy events and service trips
c. Providing students the opportunity to get involved on campus
d. Making a difference in their community.
Article II – Membership
Section 1: The voting members of this group will consist of the Core members and one advisor.
Section 2: Core members reserve the right to hold closed sessions and vote on administrative matters.
Section 3: Voting for non-core members will never be more than 1/3 of the total votes
Section 4 : Iowa State University Students Today Leaders Forever do not discriminate on the basis of race, ethnicity, sex, pregnancy, color, religion, national origin, physical or mental disability, age, marital status, sexual orientation, gender identity, genetic information or status as a U.S Veteran.
Section 5: To become a member, one must either attend a meeting or participate in a group-lead event.
Section 6: A person can be impeached by showing that they are hurting the interests of the group to be defined by the group. They will be approached by the Core members and asked to defend themselves.
Section 7: No Illicit drugs or alcohol may be possessed or consumed at any time during a planned event sponsored by the chapter.
Section 8: Membership shall be open to all registered students in good standing at Iowa State University.
Article III - Officers
Section 1: The officers will consist of four to six Core Members as the office.
Section 2: All officers must be currently enrolled students at Iowa State University and registered for at least six credits. Exceptions to the requirement are permitted for graduate students upon receipt of a letter from the Director of Graduate Studies of the student's department certifying that the student is actively pursuing a degree.)
Section 3: Core Members shall be responsible for transitioning students in and out as they see fit or as they see necessary.
Section 4: To be eligible to be a core member, students must exhibit the following:
a. Take initiative within the group and become very involved with the planning of events.
Section 5: The duties of the Core Members are as follows:
a. President over the organization and constantly re-define and communicate the vision of the group.
b. Share responsibilities with each person working within their area of expertise.
c. Appoint new Core Members.
d. One Core Member shall handle all financial transactions of the club while maintaining thorough and accurate records of all transactions and producing financial reports as required by the club.
e. Prospective officers (new core members) will apply and go through an interview process with the core members, and we will do this in the spring of each year.
f. The final decision will be made by the core members for prospective new core members
g. Impeachment/ Removal of core members is a majority vote for impeachment or removal of their position.
h. Replacement of officers will happen each year with the core member reviewing applications and having an interview process in the spring.
i. The officers of this organization must meet the following requirements:
a. Be in good standing with the university and enrolled: at least half time (six or more credit hours), if an undergraduate student (unless fewer credits are required to graduate in the spring and fall semesters) during the term of office, and at least half time (four or more credits), if a graduate level student (unless fewer credits are required in the final stages of their degree as defined by the Continuous Registration Requirement) during their term of office.
b. Have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) as stated below and meet that minimum GPA in the semester immediately prior to the election/appointment, and semesters during the term of office. For undergraduate, graduate, and professional students the minimum GPA is 2.00. In order for this provision to be met, at least six hours (half-time credits) must have been taken for the semester under consideration.
c. Be ineligible to hold an office should the student fail to maintain the requirements as prescribed in (a) and (b)
j. Advisor’s position will be to lead direction and help with resources for the organization.
k. The President or Core Members are in charge of identifying and selecting an advisor.
l. Advisor will serve year to year and have a meeting each year to re-evaluate the Advisor.
m. Advisor will be removed with majority vote of organization. The advisor can speak during the impeachment process for 2-3 minutes, and then the voting will occur when they leave the room and will be notified by e-mail if they stay or not.
n. Replacement of the Advisor will follow above, with core members seeking out a new Advisor.
Section 6: The President will be in charge of risk management.
a. Help minimize potential risks for club activities
b. Recommend risk management policies or procedures to Students Today Leaders Forever
c. To submit documentation to ISU’s Risk Management Office and
d. To ensure that Iowa State University policies are followed at all of organization’s events and
e. To ensure that proper waivers and background checks are on file with Risk Management for events (if applicable)
Article IV - Committees
Section 1: The standing team of this group shall be:
a. Event Planning Team: Consists of at least one Core Member along with other members in the group. There will be a variety of event planning cores. These teams are in charge of planning and publicizing the event as well as running the event.
Section 2: Special teams can be formed within the standing committees when there is a call to do so.
Article V - Meetings
Section 1: Meetings will be held bi-weekly on Wednesdays. Two core members must be present at every meeting. The Core Members will meet before the meeting to discuss the agenda. To start the meetings there will be activities to work on leadership. They will follow by updates of events being planned as well as a time for announcements from members.
Section 2: A quorum shall be present in order to conduct official business of the club. A quorum shall consist of 50% of the voting membership plus one.
Section 3: Decisions of the club shall be enacted by a majority vote of the voting membership plus one.
Article VI – Financial Matters
Section 1: The club shall not provide monetary gain, incidentally or otherwise to its directors or membership. This does not restrict the payment of wages, salaries or incentives by the club for services rendered.
Section 2: All monies belonging to this organization shall be deposited and disbursed through a bank account established for this organization at the Campus Organization Accounting Office and/ or approved institution/ office (must receive authorization via campus organizations accounting office.) All funds must be deposited within 48 hours after collection. The Adviser to this organization must approve and sign each expenditure before payment.
Section 3: Constitutions must state that dues will be (a) x-amount, (b) dues will not exceed x-amount or (c) no dues will exist.
Article VII – Amendments
Section 1: Amendments can be proposed to the group by calling an amendment at a meeting. Amendments will be discussed and voted on during the next meeting; majority vote will pass the amendment.
Statement of Compliance:
Section 1: Students Today Leaders Forever abides by and supports established Iowa State University policies and Federal Laws and follows local ordinances and regulations.
Section 2: Students Today Leaders Forever agrees to annually complete President’s Training, Treasurer’s Training and Advisor Training (if required)
