Do I Eat or Drink before the procedure?

You may have toast and juice 3 hours prior to the test.No caffeine /decaf products for 24 hours prior to your test. Do not take blood pressure or heart medication 24 hours prior to your test. (Bring a current list of all the medication you are taking).

Dobutamine Stress Echocardiogram

How long will the procedure take?

This procedure will take approximately 2 hours.

What will happen during this procedure?

A Dobutamine Stress Echo is a combination of a stress test and an echocardiogram. This test is used to evaluate the heart muscle, pumping function and valves of the heart. This test is done using medication (Dobutamine) and requires no exercise. You will be connected to a heart monitor and an I.V will be started. As the medication is going through the IV, pictures of your heart will be obtained using ultrasound. More ultra sound images will be obtained throughout the procedure. Your heart rate and blood pressure and oxygen saturation will be monitored. A cardiologist will be present for your procedure.

How do I dress for the procedure?

You will be asked to undress from the waist up and wear a patient gown.
