We have a South African Cross Country Champion in the Club.
CONGRATULATIONS TO:
Michael Pienaar who won the Gold Medal in the Boys U16 event at the South African Cross Country Championships held in Bloemfontein on Saturday, September 17, 2011.
Not only did he receive a Gold Medal for his individual performance but his CGA team mates ensured that they walked away with the Gold Medal in the team event. Michael completed the 6km cross country course in a time of 19:26. Well done Michael. The Chairman, Committee and members of the club are very proud of you.
Michael is in Spain at the moment getting ready to take part in the World Duathlon Championships which will take place on September 25. Good Luck Michael we hope you come home with another Gold Medal in your pocket.
Michael was not the only one to receive a Gold medal for a team event, young Gawie Louw who took part in the Boys U12 3km event finished in 4th place in a time of 11:00 and he was 3rd CGA team member home so he also received a Gold Medal. Well done Gawie.
Unfortunately the medals stopped there but our other club members all ran very well, herewith their results:
Girls U11 - 3km Dinah Moreo 45th position overall in a time of 14:00
Boys U17 - 6km Wanga Mkando 20th position overall in a time of 20:41
Women 35-39 - 4km Thandi Banda 15th position overall in a time of 18:37
Men 45-49 - 8km Dean Passmore 21st position overall in a time of 32:16
Men 55-59 - 8km Willie Maisela 5th position overall in a time of 34:21

Congratulations to Robby Burns who last week joined the small, select, illustrious band of Boksburg Athletic Club members to have conquered the highest mountain in Africa.
To stand on UHURU PEAK and gaze out at Kenya and the Rift Valley is truly something special, reserved for only a few special people.
What a tragedy that Jimmy Hill, because of his “disability” will never relish that view. Never be one of THE FEW.
I do know that Jimmy Hill did attempt to scale CASON DUMP once. He wanted to view “the bucket of blood” from a different angle. Alas it was not to be.
Anyhow once again well done to Robby Burns.
