AmeriCorps is a national community service program that gives people an opportunity to apply their skills and ideals towards helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. The Highland Street AmeriCorps Ambassadors of Mentoring program is an AmeriCorps program operated by Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) in which AmeriCorps members strategically contribute to mentoring programs’ capacity to serve youth in empowering youth-adult relationships.

Mass Mentoring Partnership (MMP) is fueling the movement to support and expand empowering youth-adult relationships throughout Massachusetts. Our vision is that every young person has the opportunity to be involved in an empowering youth-adult relationship to create more vibrant and resilient communities. We work with mentoring programs, youth serving organizations, faith-based organizations, and academic institutions to strengthen program and organizational practices. We currently work with over 250 programs supporting over 33,000 youth in sustained, consistent and supported relationships by assessing programmatic needs and organizational capacity and providing customized strategies that create stronger and more effective programs and youth-adult interactions. Position Description:

Mass Mentoring Partnership is currently recruiting an AmeriCorps Ambassador for the 2015-2016 program to serve at Mass Mentoring, based in our Boston office, as the Knowledge Management Associate. This position is from September, 2015 through July, 2016. This Ambassador position will help build the capacity of MMP’s initiatives to use data and strong information systems to guide our mission-driven work. The AmeriCorps Ambassador will serve as the project manager in three key areas of knowledge management and sharing. These include projects with our State of Mentoring survey of youth-serving organizations, enhancing and expanding the use of our program network database, and researching and developing a best practices tool-kit on evaluation for mentoring and youth development programs. This position also includes contributing to other knowledge management projects such as increasing the use of the national mentoring database by our program network.

This position is a dual report with supervision provided by both the Vice-President/Chief Operating Officer and the Director of Program Services, and will work closely with staff members across the organization.

Outline of Key Responsibilities:

State of Mentoring Survey and Youth Development Surveys

·  Working with MMP staff, identify ways the data from the 2014 State of Mentoring survey can continue to enhance MMP’s public awareness, advocacy and resource development work

·  Create tools and mini-reports using the 2014 data for sharing with the staff and our program network

·  Serve as project manager to plan for the 2016 State of Mentoring survey of youth-serving organizations

ü  Collaborate with staff to ensure that the survey tool will best support MMP’s strategic goals and provide relevant knowledge for the field

ü  Work with the National Mentoring Partnership staff on a new initiative to gather data from Massachusetts programs for a national survey on youth mentoring

ü  Develop an outreach plan to maximize the involvement of youth-serving organizations around the state in the survey

Program Network Database

·  Serve as a thought-partner with MMP staff to assess how Quickbase, our program network database system can better meet the needs of staff to track and report on our service-delivery to our program network

·  In partnership with MMP staff, gather information from staff users of the database to identify gaps or new needs, and create a planning document

·  Working with MMP staff and our Quickbase development consulting group, determine a project plan to address the gaps and new needs, and serve as project manager to implement the plan

·  Create a Quickbase user manual and protocols for MMP staff

·  Train staff and promote their usage of the Quickbase database system

Program Evaluation Knowledge Development

·  Research best practices of evaluation tools for mentoring and youth development programs

·  Compile information and develop product to compare and contrast tools, strengths and settings for best use

·  Create a collateral product to share with our program network; work closely with the marketing team to efficiently distribute and spread awareness

·  Develop a training module on evaluation tools

·  Implement the training module with staff who provide services to our program network

Qualifications:

§  BA/BS degree

§  Experience with and/or commitment to youth development, nonprofit organizations and their development

§  A passion for volunteerism and community service

§  Demonstrated initiative

§  Attention to detail and follow-through

§  Excellent written and verbal communication skills

§  Familiarity with SSPS or other survey research software

§  Experience with and interest in using/developing database tools

·  The ability to work independently and as part of a team

·  Proven leadership and project management abilities

§  The desire to work with diverse people, organizations and communities

§  Flexibility, adaptability, and a good sense of humor

§  Positive attitude

§  You must be a US citizen, national, or legal permanent resident alien of the U. S. to be an AmeriCorps member.
