Biome Project

Georgia Performance Standards:

SEV2. Students will demonstrate an understanding that the Earth is one interconnected system.

c. Characterize the components that define a Biome

-Abiotic Factors – to include precipitation, temperature and soils.

-Biotic Factors – plant and animal adaptations that create success in that biome.

The junior and senior class councils are planning an end-of-the-year trip to a location in any of the terrestrial biomes. They are asking for suggestions from students as to where the location of the trip should be. Principal Townsendinstructs them that the locations must be fully researched and the findings must be presented to a panel in order for the locations to be considered. He tells the junior and senior class councils that the presentations must include three specific elements: a three-dimensional model of the biome, a brochure of the biome, and a commercial that showcases a specific location or different locations that are found in the biome. You and your teammates have decided that you are going to participate. Principal Townsend has given you guidelines to follow and a list of steps has to be completed in order to prepare for your presentations.

Step 1: Get into groups of 3-4 students.

Group Leader: ______

Materials Manager:______

Designer:______

Step 2: Get your biome assignment (you will actually pick randomly for your biome).

Step 3: Decide what materials you will need to complete the project. Think about all three requirements: the commercial, the brochure, and the three-dimensional model.

______

Step 4: Decide what cites you will use. You must use at least three approved cites.

Step 5: Create a timeline of events. What will you do during the time that you are given to work in class?

Step 6: Create your brochure.

  • Use the brochure rubric to complete this.
  • Who will type the brochure?
  • Will you advertise the full biome or a specific location within the biome?
  • What information will be included in the brochure?

Step 7: Create your three-dimensional model.

  • What materials will you use?
  • How will you show the different parts of the biome?

Step 8: Record your commercial.

  • When is your recording day?
  • What location inside your biome will you choose?
  • Will you use just one location or several different locations in your assigned biome.
  • What types of clothing will be appropriate for your location?
  • What background props will you need?
