At a Glance Guide to the Dewey Decimal System

Organization:

In public and school libraries, the books are organized under two main categories: Fiction and Non-Fiction. Non-Fiction is further sub-divided into categories according to subject and each subject is given a number to identify where it belongs in the library. This is the Dewey Decimal System. Information in this guide is from Edition 19 of the Dewey Decimal Classification Vol. 2 Schedules.

Dewey:

Please note that some sections in the school library may not have many resources and this guide is somewhat general. As the number on the book spine gets more specific, the more specific the subject of the book is within its subject area. The numbers 000-789.999 are downstairs in the Bayview S.S. Library and numbers 790-999.999 are located upstairs against all the walls. When computer searching, some place names may have alternate spellings or alternate names as well.
