"Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord;

let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation." Psalm 95:1

July 20, 2016

Dear Parents and Students,

God is gracious and loving in all that He does for us. One of His blessings is Christian education. Through Christian education, we work at home and school to share what the Bible tells us regarding who God is and what He has done for us. It also informs every aspect of life in our school by addressing the most significant need of every child, parent, and teacher. We are hopelessly flawed by sin. But God’s Word assures us that by faith we are His forgiven and redeemed children, because of the sacrifice of His son. Our prize is eternity with Him in Heaven.

This joyful assurance leads us to our 2016-2017 school year theme: “In Joy: Grow Deep, Reach High.” Psalm 95:1 is our spotlight verse: Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation."
Check out chapters 15-21 of Foundations (by Kenneth Kremer) the yellow book handed out at registration two summers ago. Look for the Bible’s message behind the Joy theme and also God’s gracious promises. If you have not received one of these books, please speak with Mr. Christensen. It serves as a beautiful reminder of the purpose for Christian education.

Mid-Summer School Notes:

School Supply Lists – For those of you itching to get out and take advantage of all the back-to-school sales… the teachers have updated their supply list for 2016-2017 and this has been updated on our website.

School Satisfaction Survey – I’d like to thank the families who took time to participate in our school satisfaction survey. If you’d still like to participate, the deadline will be this Friday. The information received will be conveyed to teachers and the school board to help set goals for this next school year. Thanks again for helping us target our vision for Christian excellence.

Tuition Assistance – The deadline for additional financial assistance has passed. This process was made available through our new TADS program. Hopefully the application process was straightforward for anyone who applied. As TADS audits the requests now, recommendations for assistance will be made and families will be informed in the coming weeks of additional assistance they can expect.

Get Ready! Our Property Maintenance Committee has scheduled Saturday, August 6th, from 9:00 until noon as our School Readiness Work Day to take care of many large and small school projects. We appreciate as many volunteers as possible for the event. If you cannot make it that day, please contact your classroom teacher to see how you might lend a helping hand to get the classroom ready!

Home Visits – These visits are made by K-4 teachers and provide an opportunity for teachers and students to get to know one another a bit better and discuss the year ahead. Expect a phone call or email in early August from your classroom teacher to schedule a visit. Parents with children in Grades 5-8 may request a personal visit at home or school.

School Registration – All of our families should have received an email and welcoming letter from Mrs. Hofland highlighting our new TADS registration process. All of the A-H documents that had to be filled out in the past and returned in early August will now be done online. The two registration days/times will simply be used as registration assistance days for families needing some guidance or internet accessibility to complete their TADS registration.

Registration Assistance Times:

Thursday, August 4th from 3-7pm; Monday, August 8th from 9a-1p

School Open House - Thursday, August 25th from 4-6pm. Visit the classrooms, find the students’ locker and desk, and drop off school supplies; this makes that first school morning a lot smoother.

Back to School Picnic - FACE is hosting this exciting event the same evening as the School Open House - Thursday, August 25th on the school grounds from 5-7p. Your family is invited to attend this fellowship event and get reacquainted with your RLS family.

Teacher Installation! Miss Connie Kurtzweg, our new preschool teacher, has made her move from Nicollet, MN to Rochester and is preparing for her service as our Precious Lambs Preschool instructor. We extend a warm welcome to her! Mrs. Kurtzweg’s installation will be Sunday, August 28th.

First Day of School is Monday, August 29th for all PreK-8 students. K-8 parents will have to provide transportation until District 535 busing begins on Tuesday, September 6th for grades 1-8 and Thursday, September 8th for kindergarten students. There will be no school on the Friday and Monday of Labor Day weekend.

Meet the Teacher Night – Tuesday, August 30th (the 2nd day of school), is a Meet the Teacher Night. It is strongly recommended that at least one parent attend this evening to be informed of helpful classroom happenings for the school year.

Grades K-4 Orientation Start Times: 6p, 6:30p, 7p (in classrooms)

Grades 5-8 Orientation Start Time: 7p (in Chapel)

The staff and I look forward to seeing all of you again soon. May God continue to bless you this summer!

In Christ Alone,

Mr. Jared Christensen
