To Whom It May Concern:

I am writing this letter of recommendation in support of Darneisha Davis. I have known Darneisha for the last two years as a student in my OneGoal elective course. OneGoal is a three-year program designed to help students with academic and leadership potential get accepted into and graduate from selective four-year universities. Of nearly 60 students that applied for the program in the spring of 2011, Darneisha was asked to join my cohort based on herprofessionalism, ambition, resilience and integrity. She truly embodies the qualities OneGoal looks for in its students, and because of this I am proud to support her application for your scholarship.

Darneisha is a planner and a thinker, and she has one of the strongest academic records in our OneGoal cohort. Through focused use of an online ACT prep program last year, Darneisha raised her ACT composite score from a 15 to an 18. Over the course of the year we’ve spent together in OneGoal, Darneisha has maintained an average attendance rate of 95 percent and raised her GPA by 0.282 points as of the last marking period. To date, she has never missed an assignment in my class. I can rely on her to not only get her work done but to get it done well and to be in touch with me if she has any questions. I appreciate that she is an advocate for her own education.

Darneisha is a goal-driven individual who plans to enter the medical field upon college graduation. She uses this vision of her future self to guide her decisions in the present. Since the beginning of last school year, OneGoal students have been researching colleges and possible college majors in class. Darneishahas made sure that her “match schools” will allow her to pursue a pre-med or nursing degree. She knows that she would like to work with young children or babies and definitely has the caring touch essential for success in this field. Sophomore year she elected to take Honors Chemistry and this year she enrolled in an Honors Anatomy elective to give her more exposure to the field. Science, as Darneisha would tell you, is her favorite subject. Outside of school, despite working part time, Darneisha has found time to volunteer with the youth at her church by leading team-building games and helping them with homework. She seizes any opportunity she can to get her one step closer to her dream of being a neo-natal nurse or obstetrician.

Darneisha works well with others, and she is always ready to support other students who may be struggling. When I am working one-on-one with another student in the room, I can count on Darneisha to help others who have questions. Finding a college that will work best for her has been a frustrating endeavor at times, but Darneisha has remained committed to the task. When things get difficult, Darneisha remains motivated and is able to push herself forward. She seeks to be the first person in her immediate family to enroll in and graduate from a four-year college. One of the most unique things about Darneisha is that no matter how busy she is and/or how stressed out she may be, she always embodies a positive energy. Darneisha is able to balance all of her responsibilities inside and outside of school with ease. Sometimes she does not get home from her job at Strack and Van Till Grocery until after midnight, and yet she still comes to school on time the next day with her schoolwork complete.

In closing, I feel it is important to state that Darneisha has been a pleasure to know. This committed, kind, positive, and focused young lady will be an amazing addition to any college campus. I often wish that my other students had Darneisha’s same drive to be successful—it just comes so naturally to her. Outside of academics, Darneisha hopes to get involved with the dance community at her future school. I feel one hundred percent confident that she will carry her positive traits along with her to college with her next year, and I believe she is the perfect candidate for your scholarship.

Please forward any additional questions to me at

Sincerely,

Molly Rankin, MEd
