Announcingan open position for a Postdoctoral Research Associate in the Natural Resource Social Science (NRSS) Lab in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN.This is a unique postdoctoral fellowship opportunity to work with both Dr. Linda Prokopy at Purdue University and The Nature Conservancy (TNC) to test different interventions focused on soil health targeted at agricultural landowners.The successful candidate will be co-advised by Dr. Prokopy and Dr. Sheila Reddy, TNC,and will have the opportunity to receive professional development in both an academic and an NGO setting.The postdoc will be housed in the Natural Resource Social Science lab in the Department of Forestry and Natural Resources at Purdue University surrounded by other postdocs, graduate students, and staff researching agricultural conservation issues.The postdoc will also spend time at the TNC office in North Carolina and will work closely with TNC staff in the Office of the Chief Scientist and other programs throughout the implementation of this project.
In addition, the candidate will have the opportunity to work on other projects related to the social dimensions of watershed management and to interact with other postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate students in the NRSS lab. Opportunities for professional development are encouraged and attendance at a minimum of one national conference per year will be fully funded. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate with faculty and staff at other universities.
The successful candidate will have experience with both quantitative and qualitative social science research methods (experience with field experiments and economics is desirable), knowledge of agricultural conservation policy, water quality and soil health issues, and strong written and verbal communication skills.
This position is available immediately but will ideally be filled by January 9th, 2017. The position pays $47,480/year plus benefits. This position is initially for one year but is renewable for a second year based upon satisfactory performance.
