Northants Young Farmers raise money for Cransley Hospice
The third Northants YFC ploughing match was held on 10th April at Holcot by kind permission of Geoff Mills. There were 28 ploughmen, with the majority ploughing competitively and a few who just came along to play!
The results were as follows: The Vintage Mounted class was won by Richard Keeves from Moreton Pinkney on a Ferguson FE32 tractor and with a Ransome Robin 2 furrow plough. David Curtis from Littleport won the Classic class, on a MF35X tractor with a Ransomes TS86 2 furrow plough. The Young Farmers class was well supported by young farmers from Northants YFC and our neighbouring counties. This class was won by Sam Gawthroup of Cottenham YFC, Cambridgeshire on a Massey Ferguson 65 tractor and Ransomes TS59 2 furrow plough. George Hankins won the Reversible class, on his iconic “Snoopy” International 3588 tractor, using a Dowdeswell DP6 plough. A special thank you to George for staying at the end of the day to plough the rest of the field.
The event was fundraising for Cransley Hospice, Kettering which provides palliative care for those with life limiting illnesses in north Northamptonshire. We are very proud to say that a total of £1,008.09 was raised for Cransley Hospice, this was raised through the entry fee, donations and a BBQ.
Many thanks to our judges Geoff Mills and Peter Rose, and all those that helped to set up the plots without whom the event would not have been possible! The event was a great success, and enjoyed by all. Despite the wet weather the night before, the day of the ploughing match was perfectly sunny and the ground dried out well. We look forward to the next Northants YFC ploughing match in the spring of 2017.
