The Lady’s Not for Burning

Theatre Company / Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre in association with Michael James
Description / A comedy in verse. A witch wants to live. A soldier wants to die. Who wins the other over? Set in the Middle Ages, this romantic comedy written by Christopher Fry in 1948 explores serious social issues under the comic exterior to reflect the world’s exhaustion and despair following World War II. A disillusioned veteran wants to be hanged until he is wooed from his desire by the happier, accused witch on her way to the stake who wants to live. In form, it resembles Shakespeare’s pastoral comedies.
