Metro Central Education District: Teacher Training
(October, 2014)
Summary of Qualitative Data
This workshop is one of the most beneficial workshops I have attended. The trainer’s presentation (style) was warm, easy to follow and understand. I like that he included practical activities, examples and demonstrations.
I think that the basic concepts training should be an imperative for the entire foundation phase.
Excellent:- It gives enough guidance for school readiness for grade one learners.
I learned a new language to use with my learners.
It was very informative. I feel empowered by the knowledge (I gained). I feel that my children would benefit so much … (from) the methods and the teaching model.
I can see how this will help my children. I’m excited to start. I even want to tell all teachers to do this course.
We will definitely have stronger learners (as they) move from one grade to another… more time (needs to) be made available during contact time for educators to ensure that each child develops a good conceptual language.
I think all foundation phase teachers should be exposed to this course. The BCP should be compulsory in Grade R.
I always thought I knew how important basic concepts (were)… but not to this extent. It puts learning and teaching into perspective.
The Basic Concepts Programme provides me with another tool to meet my learners’ needs.
The programme focuses on the learner… where the teacher acts as a mediator, prompts to access logical thinking and develops language.
It opened my eyes and mind:How to help learners in my class and how to use conceptual language to improve the child’s knowledge.
It is a programme for young children who experience barriers towards learning. It helps them with learning to read and write in class. It helps them to be able to think critically. It helps them to do things independently. It helps them to follow or carry out instructions, but mostly builds their language.
