Caretaker: Pay Grade: H3
Purpose of the Role: To be responsible for the security of the premises and related health and safety, maintenance and cleaning within the school and providing an appropriate environment for students to work and learn.
Responsibilities:
Ensurethesecurityofschoolbuildings,site and resources.
Actasadesignatedkeyholder,providingoutofhoursandemergencyaccesstotheschoolsite.
Arrangeforgeneralmaintenancewithinspecialistareassuchasheating,lightingandplumbingtoensuresafeandeffectiveoperation.
Carry outregularhealthandsafetychecksofbuildings,grounds,fixturesandfittings,(includingcompliancewithfiresafetyregulations)andequipment.
Complete termly health and safety checklist inspections, including one annually with a member of the Governing Body.
Carry out regularsite maintenancechecksandundertake follow-upactions, including repairs.
Carry out handyperson duties, which may include minor repairs to furniture and fixtures and some decorating tasks.
Supervisecontractorswhilstonsiteandensurework iscompletedtotherequiredstandard, co- ordinating projects where appropriate.
Managetheregularcheckingandoperationofsystemssuchasheating,cooling,lightingandsecurity(includingCCTVandalarms).
Support, organise and work alongside cleaning staff in general caretaking duties, clearing spillages and making the site safe following inclement weather, eg snow.
Support the school in reminding parents to park in a safe and legal manner outside the school and on the adjacent roads.
To promote recycling and provide support and systems for this to be carried out in school.
Undertakeriskassessments,ensuringcompliancewithintheschoolwithallhealthandsafetylegislation and responsibilities, for example site capacity, COSHH, ladder, asbestos, legionella and asset register. School grounds to include The Spinney and the pond – weekly checking of the Forest School site in line with the Forest School risk assessment.
Undertake twice yearly (or more frequently if necessary) clean-up of the pond to include clearing out any excess leaf debris, branches and logs. Keep pond area and Spinney clean and safe for the use of Forest School.
Liaisewithotherschoolstaffonpremisesissues.
Liaise with the Parents’ Association on all matters relating to the school site.
Carry out general porterage duties, including movement of deliveries, furniture and equipment – to include setting out of chairs for parents’ assemblies, or tables and chairs for meetings.
Manage out-of –hours access to the site, as required.
Monitor utility usage and take action to reduce expenditure where appropriate.
Report health and safety matters to SLT and Governors.
Carry out any other duties which may arise from the use of the premises.
