Abstract. The abstract text should be formatted using 11 point Times New Roman. The text of the report should start on a separate page. The abstract follows the project title, student name, the name of the Hosting Site, and the name of the mentors. The abstract should give readers concise information about the summer project and indicate the main results obtained and conclusions drawn. The abstract should not include table numbers, figure numbers, references or displayed mathematical expressions. The abstract should not exceed 200 words and should be restricted to a single paragraph. Immediately after the abstract you are encouraged to attach a picture of yourself or your internship team taken during the internship (an example to be replaced by your picture is provided below).

1. Internship Project
The written report is meant to be a summary of your overall internship experience, including a description of your research project, your accomplishments, and the benefits you received. It is intended to be an eight to ten page summary but you can use more pages if needed.
Your report must have at least two sections: Internship Project and Impact of Internship on My Career. Use the Internship Project section to describe your internship project and discuss your specific role(s). Discuss your achievements during the internship including contributions to publications, presentations, and accomplishment of project milestones. This template includes four sections, but you may include additional/different sections if needed. Please do not start a new page after each section.
If needed for the description of your project, you can include pictures, figures, tables, and equations. Your report can also include references (see, e.g., references [1] and [2] in the References section below).
Table 1 is an example of a table listing the fonts used in this template.

Bold to indicate Figure/Table number.
Any long equations important for the report should be placed on separate lines and numbered, e.g.,

Equations are numbered so you can refer to them in the text. For example:
The binomial theorem in equation 1 shows how it is possible to expand any power of (x+h) into a sum.
The examples shown in Figures 1-4 below were taken from previous reports and demonstrate how to format a number of different figure/caption combinations. You can use a different format if you prefer to do so. Note that the table borders are shown as broken lines for guidance only; you can hide these lines in your actual report.

2. Impact of Internship on My Career
Use the Impact of Internship on My Career section to discuss how the internship experience impacted your academic and/or career planning and describe new skills and knowledge that you gained. Include a description of lectures/activities sponsored by the hosting facility that were of benefit to your personal and professional development. Discuss any ideas you may have about areas of research that should be considered to help the Department of Homeland Security accomplish its mission and goals.
3. Acknowledgments
This section is optional. You can use it to express your appreciation to individuals, facilities, or programs.
