Mrs. Horton’s English III

Course Information, Policies, and Procedures

This class is designed to meet the learning needs of all students. We will explore American literature from the early Puritan settlers through more modern 20th century authors. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this class please email me at: .

Nine-weeks grading:

  • Tests, quizzes, essays, presentations, and projects: 75%
  • Daily work: 25%

Your EOC will be weighted as 10% of your FINAL grade for the year.

Requested Materials:

  • College-ruled notebook paper
  • Pen or pencil (blue or black ink only)
  • The Great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald*

* I will provide copies of these novels; however, students will not be allowed to take notes in the novels.

Absences and Tardies:

  • Come to class if you want to pass. It is very difficult to pass a class if you do not attend the class. You are tardy if you are not in your seatbefore the bell rings.
  • Unexcused tardies will be addressed according to the Siegel High School Attendance Policy.

Make-up Policy:

  • Students have one week from the absence to make up work including tests and quizzes for full credit.

Bathroom and Leaving Policy:We only have 47 minutes for each period, so students will only be excused to leave class during true emergencies after instruction is completed.

Extra Credit: There will be NO extra credit assignments in this course. I have built extra credit into the curriculum.

Plagiarism and Cheating: WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!

Code of Conduct: Four B’s & Consequences

  1. Be respectful.

  4. Be awake and ready to learn at all times.

Violating any of the Four B’s or school policies will result in the following consequences:

  1. First Offense: student-teacher conference after class
  2. Second Offense: school writing assignment and parent contact to schedule a parent-teacher conference
  3. Third Offense: Office Referral

Cellphones/Electronic Devices

I don’t want to hear them. If they interfere with your learning, they will sit on my desk until the end of class. Any chronic problems will be referred to the class administrator.

CELLPHONES MAY ONLY BE CHARGED AT THE CHARGING STATION! DO NOT UNPLUG MY THINGS TO CHARGE YOUR PHONE!

Food and Drinks

Food and drinks are permitted as long as they do not become a distraction, and I don’t have to clean up after you. I have 4 trash cans. Throw your garbage away.
