Creating a Voice-Over Using Audacity Software
Goal:
Your product will be a narrative voice-over. It will include the following elements:
§ Narration
§ OPTIONAL: Background Music (if appropriate)
§ OPTIONAL: Sound Effects (only if appropriate)
Materials: Each group should have the following
§ Computer workstation with Audacity and Lame software
§ Microphone
§ Headphones
§ Headphone Splitter
§ Access to shared folder (mscomputerlab)
Step 1: CREATE VOICE-OVER FOLDER
§ Create folder named “Voice Over” in user Drive. Save all music and related files in this folder.
Step 2: LOCATE AND SAVE MUSIC
§ Visit the Class projects websites to find royalty free music background tracks
§ USE ONLY FREE and ROYALTY FREE MUSIC
§ Choose brief selections (1-2 minutes at MOST!!)
§ Right Click on Title > SAVE TARGET AS…
§ SAVE music and sound effects in your Voice-Over Folder
Step 3: IMPORT MUSIC & SOUND EFFECT TRACKS
Open Audacity
Save Project:
§ FILE > SAVE PROJECT AS > name your project (ex. Mrs. M Voice-over)
Add Narration
§ Click on Red Record Button
§ Record narration into Audacity
(Optional) Import Music Tracks
§ Click on Project
§ Click on IMPORT AUDIO
§ Select sound selection from your Voice-Over Folder
§ Click OPEN > Sound Track will load into audacity
Edit Tracks- create final presentation
§ Use basic Audacity features to move/edit/cut tracks.
Step 4: CONVERT TO MP3 and SAVE FINAL VERSION
Click on File
Click on Export as MP3
You will see the following dialog box. Click YES
Save audacity file in radio show folder- add “final” to name (ex. Mrs. M Scary Story- Final). This will be an MP3 file.
You will see the following message:
Would you like to locate lame_enc.dll now? Click YES
Click on desktop
Click on lame_enc.dll
Click OK.
Will Export the file as MP3 file
