Committee Issues New Report
Faster, Cheaper, Better? How Counties Use Design-Build Contracting
The Senate Local Government Committee has released the summary of its January 20, 2010 oversight hearing that looked at how counties use the design-build method of contracting for capital improvement projects.
Although broad support exists --- especially among counties --- to repeal the sunset clause and make permanent the state law that allows counties to use design-build contracts, contractor and labor groups disagreed over the statute’s provisions.
The report includes summaries of what the 19 speakers told the Committee members, along with brief descriptions of written comments from four other observers. From those materials, the Committee’s staff abstracted six findings.
The Committee’s new report also reprints the staff’s 12-page briefing paper and an earlier research memo, plus all of the written materials that the legislators received. Copies of Faster, Cheaper, Better are now available from:
