NETWORK TECHNICIAN(IT 3)

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the ICT Coordinator, the Network Technician, will establish, operate, maintain, and co-ordinate the use of the local area networks (LAN), the wide area network (WAN), hardware, software, and related computer equipment including all division servers, internet, firewall, video conferencing, video security, email, website, data storage, backup, and VOIP services. He/she provides support to first-line users concerning computer hardware, applications, and communications software.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Engineer, install, maintain, troubleshoot, and administer the use of LAN, WAN, virtualized server environment, computer workstations and peripheral equipment and cabling in all buildings throughout the Division
  • Communicate with users experiencing difficulties to determine and solve problems.
  • Consult user guides, technical manuals, and other documents to research and implement solutions.
  • Maintain Work Ticket system and collaborate with IT technicians as to the delivery of support provided to schools.
  • Ensure all installed systems software, instructional software and non-instructional software is properly licensed;
  • Evaluate and install computer hardware, networking, and operating system software
  • Implement data, software, and hardware security procedures.
  • Manage and maintain all Division servers.
  • Maintain administrative and other Division software.
  • Provide and assist school, and other staff, with training relative to basic network and workstation operation, and minor troubleshooting;
  • Keeping abreast of new developments in the field through personal training and up-grading;
  • Be familiar with and adhere to relevant Board Policy, procedures, practices, and Reference Manuals.
  • Assume other responsibilities and perform other related duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • A Computer Science/Network Administration Diploma/Degree or equivalent and/or equivalent years of experience.
  • Proficiency with current Division server software.
  • Proficiency with current network configuration standards.
  • Proficiency with Division software.

  • Ability to work as a team member
  • A valid Driver’s License.
  • Ability to work flexible hours.
  • A sense of discretion that respects the privacy and integrity of those with whom he/she is associated.
  • Satisfy all the requirements of the Division Policy regarding Child Abuse Registry and Criminal Record checks.
