English
We will:
  • “Foundations”is the prevailing theme of the literature we will study and the writing projects we will undertake. The literature includes the anchor text, Maniac Magee by Jerry Spinelli.
  • Poetry, short stories and expository text will complement the novel as we explore characterization, internal and external conflict, figurative language, flashback, humor, hyperbole, imagery, inference, irony, plot structure, setting, simile, theme, and tone.
  • The writing instruction will emphasize strengthening grammar skills: prefixes, suffixes, complete subjects and predicates, simple subjects and predicates, and contractions.

Spanish
We will:

  • Describe the weather during the different seasons and the months of the year

  • Ask basic in-school “survival” questions
  • Identify items in the classroom
  • Translate the daily, afternoon message

/ Science
We will:
  • Review the steps of Well-Designed Investigation through class discussion, activities, and labs
  • Recognize and give examples of the vast diversity of organisms, including plants, animals, and microorganisms
  • Identify and give examples of the similarities among organisms found in their external and internal features that can be used to infer the degree of relatedness among organisms
  • Construct and use classification systems for grouping organisms
Please remember that there are quizzes every Friday in science and students should be studying nightly to prepare for class the next day as well as for our weekly assessments.

*Homework is a GRADED EVENT in 6th grade. Homework counts for 10% of your final grade in ALL classes and must be turned in on-time
