Position title: Payroll Accountant & HR Generalist

Reports to: Director of Finance & Administration

Position Summary:The payroll accountant will provide strategy and direction for human resources and payroll functions. Will also initiate, develop, implement, and manage effective human resources and payroll policies, system, and process; including staffing, benefits administration, compensation, performance management, payroll and HRIS systems.

Primary Duties:

  1. Identify, develop, and implement human resources and payroll functions to meet organizational goals.
  2. Provide guidance, support and development of employee relations issues. May occasionally work with attorneys on legal cases related to employee relations and disputes.
  3. Ensures smooth payroll processing transactions, tax filing, W-2 forms and ESR reporting.
  4. Reconciles cash accounts and other accounts monthly.
  5. Assists in the preparation of the annual audit.
  6. Assist program directors and managers on recruiting, application database, hiring, and onboarding process and procedures.
  7. Conduct new hire orientations and exit interviews.
  8. Conduct background checks, E-verifications, driving record checks, as required by insurance agency, state and federal regulations.
  9. Coordinate annual employee benefits renewals and benefits meetings with benefits services representatives. Manage all employee benefits administration.
  10. Prepares reports and/or presentations on the financial performance of assigned programs as required. Responsible for the presentation of financial data and as needed to lead the discussion.
  11. Manage the job grading system, revise job descriptions, and update job grades in the payroll system.
  12. Collaborate and communicate with supervisors and employees to maintain accurate personnel information in Paychex Preview, HRO, and TLO system.
  13. Develop, implement, interpret, and revise Personnel Policies and Procedures to comply with state, federal and local regulations.
  14. Serves as the GMCC Americans with Disabilities Act and EEO/Affirmative Action Compliance Coordinator and maintain affirmative action plan, objectives and goals.

Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or Human Resources Management or related field; 5-8 years’ experience with human resource generalist responsibilities; more than 3 years of payroll and basic accounting experience.
  2. Knowledge of Paychex Preview, TLO and HRO system, and Financial Edge software preferred.
  3. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, the internet, and data base systems.
  4. Ability to utilize databases to generate, analyzes, and interprets reports.
  5. Excellent written and interpersonal communications, training, and presentation skills; strong attention to details.

Salary: $48,000 – 54,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications + benefits, which includes vacation, sick leave, pension, and other benefits as provided by the Personnel Policies of the Greater Minneapolis Council of Churches.
