CONNELLSVILLE AREA SCHOOL DISTRICT BOARD OF EDUCATION

SPECIAL BOARD MEETING –JANUARY 27, 2016

Minutes of the regular meeting of the Board of School Directors of the Connellsville Area School District held in the Connellsville Area Senior High School, 201 Falcon Drive, Connellsville, Pennsylvania, on Wednesday, January 27, 2016, at 7:00 PM.

An executive session was held prior to the meeting to discuss personnel issue.

CALL TO ORDER

The meeting was called to order by the President, Jay Fox at 7:19 p.m.

Dr. Paul Means was absent.

Others present included Superintendent Martell, District Administrators Routzahn, Hampe, Marko, Omatick, Parlak and Stern, Building Administrator Snyder, Michael, Solicitor Stern, one reporter and approximately seventy concerned citizens.

MOMENT OF SILENCE/PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE

A moment of silence was observed and followed by the Pledge of Allegiance, led by President Fox.

PRESENTATION

John Pappas and Mark Scheller of Eckles presented options to the Board.

PUBLIC COMMENT

None

BUILDINGS AND GROUNDS

Motion was made by Mr. Lape and seconded by Mr. Martucci to conduct a feasibility study meeting on Wednesday, February 3, 2016, 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium at the Connellsville Area School District and to instruct the Board Secretary to advertise said meeting. The following voted in favor: Duncan, Harshman, Kisiel, Lape, Martucci, Mongell, Wandel and Fox.

Motion was made by Mr. Lape and seconded by Mr. Martucci to approve the following resolution:

PERSONNEL AND REVIEW

Motion was made by Mr. Lape and seconded by Mr. Mongell to approve Mary Fantuzzo as a long-term substitute teacher effective August 26, 2015. The following voted in favor: Duncan, Harshman, Kisiel, Lape, Martucci, Mongell, Wandel and Fox.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Motion was made by Mr. Fox and seconded by Mr. Martucci to hire Philip Martell as Superintendent of Schools effective January 28, 2016 for five years, pursuant to the terms of the agreement between the District and the Superintendent, as proposed, at a salary of $122,000. The following voted in favor: Duncan, Harshman, Lape, Martucci, Wandel and Fox. The following voted against: Kisiel and Mongell. Motion Carried 6-2

ADJOURN

Motion was made by Mr. Wandel and seconded by Mr. Lape to adjourn. With all those in favor the meeting was adjourned at 7:59 p.m.
