Indigenous Wellbeing CAT

Year 10 Humanities 2016

As we know indigenous Australians have a vastly different experience of well being to mainstream Australians. As the textbook says …Are we all equal? Well no, we are not.As a geography student, it is your job to research, understand and report on how an aspect of indigenous wellbeing can be improved.

In order to do this accurately you must examine indigenous well being by investigating the support groups and organisations that are catering to the indigenous community and report on what they are achieving and how they are achieving their goals.

Your Task:

Part 1: Choose one support group or organisation that is catering to the indigenous community and improving the wellbeing of that community.

Part 2:Use your geographers skills and provide statistics and maps to collect data to convey the importance of the issue for indigenous people what goals are they achieving and how they are achieving their goals.

Create a table to compare any data on the experience of indigenous people to the experience of mainstream Australians.

Any statistics, data or maps must be referenced and labelled as to the source.

Part 3: When you have chosen your group or organisation and completed a data based investigation, prepare an investigative report about your organisation. Your biggest challenge will be to take a geographers’ approach and write objectively. (Keep any opinions to yourself) Support any claims you make with data and information.

Key questions to guide you:

  • What is the support group or organisation you have chosen?
  • How does your chosen group or organisation assist indigenous people and foster their wellbeing?
  • How does the welling of indigenous people compare to mainstream Australians?
  • How and when and where was your chosen group or organisation established?
  • How many indigenous people are part of your chosen group or organisation and what region or geographical area do they operate?
  • What are the goals for your chosen group or organisation to assist indigenous wellbeing?
  • What evidence have you found that your chosen group or organisation is achieving its goals?
