LAST-MINUTE STRATEGIES:

1.  Finish your 3 essays.

o  follow/complete the Outline Templates (review the rhetorical strategies if necessary)

o  type your drafts

o  use the Spell Checker

o  use specific examples in each essay

§  specific people & instances in the EX and Class. essays

§  "how exactly" in the Process

o  use the Emphatic Order in the Example & Classification essays (the "most" = last)

§  arrange your steps chronologically in the Process Essay

* make sure the PROMPT is the first sentence of each essay (your Opening Generalization)

* make sure you repeat the PROMPT in the Conclusion, too

2.  Proofread your essays.

o  grammar, punctuation

o  sentence errors ***

o  read the essays backwards, focusing on 1 word group at a time

o  focus not on what you say, but how you say it

3.  Don't try to memorize the entire essay - x 3.

o  note & memorize those hard-to-spell words.

o  memorize your reasons, steps, & types

o  memorize your outlines

4.  Review your "funnel effect" in your Introduction

o  note how you moved from the Opening Generalization (the prompt)

o  to your Thesis Statement

o  For ex: Health Care --> ways people are taking care of themselves --> dieting --> some types of dieters --> the 3 most common types of dieters

o  perhaps you can outline it in such a way

5.  Practice outlining each essay.

o  ** this is perhaps the best practice**

o  just a skeletal outline of your ideas

o  so you can jot this down in the first few minutes of your writing

o  outline while you read an essay

o  outline after you read an essay

o  outline without looking at the essay (Monday night, Tuesday morning)

DAY OF:
