Membership Officer, IPEd

About IPEd

From 1 July, IPEd will restructure as the national association of professional editors, with state and territory branches.About 1200 members work either in-house for publishers and other organisations, or as freelance editors across many sectors.

IPEd and its branches will provide membership services, including professional development, standards for editorial practice, accreditation, social meetings, newsletters and national conferences, and promote the members and the profession.

About the role

Reporting directly to the Executive Officer (EO), the Membership Officer (MO) will manage membership, acting as the primary interface with members, and liaising with the Membership Committee and branch committees as necessary. IPEd uses MEMNET, a web-based membership and event management system that provides member self-service and an editorial services directory.

The MO, with other national staff (the EO, Secretary, Communication Officer and Finance Officer), willwork remotely, communicating using web-based tools. The incumbent will travel to national editors conferences (usually biennially), and to IPEd general meetings as necessary.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Maintain the quality and integrity of IPEd’s membership records
  • Answer queries from current and prospective members
  • Manage the approval of membership applications according to policy
  • Coordinate the setting up of events in the registration system
  • Prepare membership reports

Skills and experience

  • Demonstrated capacity and experience in the use of a web-based membership system
  • Highly developed skills in using the Microsoft Office suite of programs
  • The ability to work in a systematic way with a minimum of direction
  • Excellent interpersonal, spoken and written communication skills
  • The ability to work effectively as part of a team
