Purpose

The National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 4) provides holders with recognition of skills and knowledge related to the world of work, career consultation, education, intervention, assessment and measurement, and placement of clients into work, education, or training.

These skills and competencies have been identified as those used by people who work as career educators in schools, polytechnics, universities, colleges of education, and private training establishments and for liaison officers, recruitment officers, placement agencies, immigration officers, and special needs agencies.

In order to fulfil these roles knowledge of the world of work, career development theory, and interventions is required. The range of skills and competencies include the application of career assessment instruments, recruitment and placement, assisting people with career plans, educating others about careers, the world of work, education, and training.

The National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 4) is designed to provide a pathway to the National Diploma in Career Practice (Level 6) [Ref: 0429]. There is a small degree of commonality in this qualification and the National Certificate in Career Practice (Level 3) [Ref: 0427] and the National Diploma in Career Practice (Level 6) [Ref: 0429]. For example, some standards that are electives in the national certificates become compulsory in the diploma.
