Steps & Suggested Time / Procedure / Materials / Additional Notes
Introduction,
Vocabulary
5 min / o  Teachers are to introduce themselves and the class topic; Directions.
o  Inquire if Ss know what directions are and how we use them in everyday life, why they are important for traveling and what directions they already know.
o  Ask if Ss have ever travelled and had to ask for directions. Ask if they have ever had to ask for directions in an English speaking country.
o  Have Ss give you directions to M&S Mall or the bathroom
Directions
PPT
15 min / o  Open the simulation PPT and explain to Ss that they will learn and review directions, prepositions, and then play team games using the learned vocabulary.
o  Go through each slide and ask Ss to read the word/s shown. Ask Ss if they can explain the meaning of the word in English. Have Ss read the example sentence; and give their own example.
o  If Ss still do not understand the word provide a visual example (i.e. stand in front of your desk and say “I am standing IN FRONT OF the desk”) / Simulation PPT
Textbook
10 min / o  Have Ss open their Textbooks to page 65 High Level/67 Low Level and have them write down the correct answer in the blank space provided under each direction symbol.
o  This can be made into a team game by telling the Ss that the team in which everyone is first to complete the activity will get a certain amount of points.
o  Alternatively this activity can also be turned into a relay race. Divide the board in two. Have each team line up in front of the board. Tell Ss to write the answers on the board in the correct order using their Textbook as a reference. / Textbook pg. 65(H)/67(L) / For lower levels the textbook page can be completed together as a class.
Map Game
10 min / o  Tell Ss that they will now learn to follow verbal instructions.
o  Open PPT with the map image and have Ss open Textbooks to page 66 High level/ 68 Low Level.
o  Give each team or small group one large map and a game piece.
o  Have Ss sit on the floor in a circle around the map and place their game piece on SNET (starting point).
o  Explain that you will read directions to a specific location aloud and they must follow them by moving their piece around the map.
o  Tell Ss that the first team to raise their hands after the directions are finished with the end location answer will have the first chance to answer. If the answer is correct give the team one point.
o  If Ss answer incorrectly the opposite team will get a chance to answer. Continue to do this until you get a correct answer.
o  If both teams have placed their piece incorrectly and relatively far from the correct location tell Ss that go back to SNET (Start) and re-read the directions.
o  Complete for all directions. / PPT Map

Activity
10 min / o  Tell Ss that they will now learn to give verbal directions to their team mates.
o  Using the laminated color paper strips.
o  Place the laminated treasure picture card somewhere along the maze.
o  Tell Ss that one of their team mates will wear a blind fold and the rest of the team will have to give him verbal instructions to find the treasure.
