SCOPE OF WORK: Performs accounting functions in the application of basic techniques of accounting relative to controlling departmental financial transactions and maintaining accounting and individual student accounts, as well as other aspects of accounts receivables. This position shall report to the Bursarat MCC.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Ensures that applicable students are briefed on the Online Payment Options. Processes and maintains documentation associated with the options.
  • Contacts individuals by phone, email or mail to exchange information pertaining to the status of their financial accounts.
  • Utilizes the Banner system, PC based electronic spreadsheets and word processing to perform assigned tasks.
  • Keeps financial records, past due and current, and balances daily deposits and posts to Banner system.
  • Requests payment on past due amounts by telephone contact, email and by generating dunning letters using computer software; works closely with System Office collections specialist.
  • Performs front line customer service to students regarding all aspects of their financial account.
  • Works with other departments to resolve student queries as necessary.
  • Assists with processes related to the Running Start program.
  • Supports billing activity as requested by Supervisor; runs and manages statistical reports;
  • Serves as backup for other staff members as required.
  • Attends workshops, seminars, and conferences for professional development.
  • Complies with all system, college, state and federal rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINUMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Associate’s degree from a recognized college or technical institute with major study in accounting or business management, or completion of two (2) years of college with a minimum of six semester hours in accounting. Each additional year of approved formal education may be substituted for one year of required work experience.

Experience: One (1) year of experience in bookkeeping or accounting work. Each additional year of approved work experience may be substituted for one year of required formal education.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Strong written and oral communication skills, experience in customer service, conflict resolution, computerized accounting systems, PC based spreadsheets and word-processing preferred.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: For appointment consideration, Accounting Technician applicants must successfully participate in a structured interview measuring possession of knowledge, skills and abilities identified as necessary for satisfactory job performance by this class specification.

Ability to supervise, train, and assign work to subordinates. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with fellow employees and the public. Must be willing to maintain appearance appropriate to assigned duties and responsibilities as determined by the college’s appointing authority.
