EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE

Minutes of the Meeting of October 25, 2013

Ka Lama 102, 10:30 a.m.

1.Attendance. Chancellor Clyde Sakamoto convened the meeting of the Executive Committee. Present were: Nicole Beattie; Interim Vice Chancellor Cathy Bio; Michael DeLouise; Ann Emmsley; Diane Meyer; Deandra Perry; Kī‘ope Raymond; Stephanie Pratt; and Ray Tsuchiyama.

2.Vice Chancellor Updates.

The Committee discussed the publication of student fees in the UHMC catalog and related materials. UH System used to provide the catalog pages regarding fees, but now UHMC must complete its own pages. It was noted that not all program fees are currently included in the catalog (for example, nursing and culinary program fees). Students would be aided by having all fee Information in one place. Fees are mentioned in course descriptions, but not necessarily in the summary listing of fees.

It was also reported that there is not much enthusiasm for further increases in fees or tuition among UH regents. If UHMC had a 75% retention rate from Spring to Fall semesters, and increased persistence rates, programs would have more money to spend on classroom supply needs.

3.Budget.

The Committee discussed the status of frozen positions and how certain positions will be filled using RTRF funds. UHMC is requesting $1.5 million in General Fund moneys for electricity and other costs. More positions may be filled if the request is appropriated.

The Committee discussed funding for the Business Careers and Business Technology programs and employment opportunities for graduates.

The Committee discussed Kahikina O KaLā spending on new hires. A meeting may be scheduled among Damien Cie, the Chancellor, and representatives of Lau‘ulu to discuss these matters.
