Transition Arrangements

This qualification has been reviewed and replaced by the New Zealand Certificate in Textile Manufacturing (Level 4) with an optional strand in Technical Leadership [Ref: 2978].

The last date for entry into programmes leading to this qualification is 31 December 2016.

It is anticipated that no existing candidates will be disadvantaged by these transition arrangements. However, anyone who feels that they have been disadvantaged may appeal to Competenz at the address below. Appeals will be considered on a case by case basis.

Changes to content and level

· Total credit value of the qualification increased from 131 to 133 credits.

· Standard 2824 was replaced by standards 21911 and 21912

· Standard 6518 was replaced by standards 27203 and 27204

This qualification contains standards that are recommend alternatives for an expired standard. For the purposes of this qualification people who have gained credit for the expired standard are exempt from the requirement to gain credit for the standard used in its place – see table below.

Engineering Industry Training Organisation

Purpose

This is a national certificate for people working in the carpet manufacturing industry. The qualification is a means of recognising advanced skills and knowledge that people have achieved in the tuning and maintenance of carpet weaving equipment. People who have achieved this qualification have the skills and knowledge necessary to tune and maintain carpet weaving looms. They also have advanced knowledge of the structure and construction of carpets. People who have achieved this qualification also have core engineering skills related to the carpet manufacturing process.

2 regulations for the qualification

2.1 entry information for programmes of education and training assessed against the unit standards in the qualification

Prerequisite qualification: Carpet Manufacture (Carpet Weaving) (Level 3) with one of the specialist strands in Wilton Weaving, Spool Axminster Weaving, or Gripper Axminster Weaving, or have demonstrated equivalent knowledge and skills.

Because of the need for work place training in the operation of industry specific equipment, it is recommended that only people employed in a textile processing plant with the equipment required, enrol on a programme leading to this qualification.

Because of the need for good colour vision, it is recommended that people entering the qualification have taken an Ishihara Colour Test, or equivalent.

2.2 recognition of prior learning

Prior learning will be recognised at both unit standard and qualification level.


2.3 qualification requirements

The qualification will be awarded to people who are credited with all the compulsory unit standards and have met the requirements of the elective list.

8 credits at level 2, 5 credits at level 3 and 20 credits at level 4.
