Welcome

Ø  Introductions around the room. Review minutes from previous meeting. One typo found in the fencing update section. Motion to pass, seconded, passed to accept minutes as presented, with typo noted

PTO Finances

Ø  Details on finances found on Agenda

Non-Profit Status 501(c)3

Ø  No change in the status of the PTO application for 501© status

Annual PTO award

Ø  Tentative date of May 22nd. Want a date where the head of LEARN is free to attend.

Spelling Bee

Ø  11 teams signed up so far

Ø  Basket themes for donations:

o  Freshmen, kitchen; Sophomores, Chocolate, coffee/tea, Italian; Juniors and Seniors, Movie night, ice cream sundae, music

o  Dr. Spera will donate a basket of school store items

Principal Report

Ø  Tentative date for freshmen orientation is March 27. Parent volunteers are welcome

Ø  The fencing team finished 7th in the state. Two students finished in the top 8 in the state.

Ø  Program of studies will be coming out. There will be new electives next year

o  New next year: If a student is taking 3 AP/ECE classes, they may sign up to take only 5 courses

Ø  College acceptances are coming in

Ø  The date for our official NEASC visit is spring 2016.

Ø  CAPT testing- This year the sophomores are only taking the science portion of the test.

Ø  Juniors are taking the pilot version of the Smarter Balance test. Results are not published, this is just to test the process and the degree of difficulty.

o  Juniors next year will also take a pilot version of the Smarter Balance test

Ø  A library media specialist is being sought to work at MSMHS. The upstairs will be the library area

Ø  In the future, many of the AP classes will also qualify for UConn credit.

Ø  Motion made to spend up to $5,000 on a portable sound system. Motion seconded, passed.
