Meeting started at 10:00 am.
Minutes were unanimously approved from the August 3, 2006 meeting.
Supplementary International Conference Participation Travel Competition:
There were a total of 11 applicants to this competition. Five applicants would be eligible for SSHRC research funding and six applicants eligible for NSERC research funding. All applicants were considered eligible for funding.
The NSERC eligible applicants are funded through the NSERC Research Capacity Development Grant. There are now two competitions per year with $7500 available per competition.
Motion: Each NSERC eligible applicant receive $1,000.00

The SSHRC eligible applicants are funded through the SSHRC Institutional Grant. There are now two competitions per year with $15,000 available per competition.

Internal Grants, New Faculty
The application form was discussed. It was decided to amend the form to ask new faculty their date of appointment to Saint Mary's University. This application form and the form for Established Faculty should also flag whether animals are proposed be used as research subjects so that the University can abide by the Canada Council on Animal Care procedures and the Tri-Council MOU Schedule 3: Ethical Review of Research Involving Animals.
Action: Margaret Schenk will amend the application forms.
Five applications for New Faculty Grants in Aid of Research were received. The Committee requested clarification from one applicant about the proposed outcome of the grant and from one applicant about the grant budget justification.
Motion: Pending clarification of items identified, five applications would be funded at up to $5,000.
