KOMU 8 Sports Anchor Wins Regional Edward R. Murrow Award
COLUMBIA, MO – The Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) honored KOMU 8 Sports Anchor and Reporter Eric Blumberg with a regional Edward R. Murrow Award for video sports reporting on Wednesday.
The RTDNA represents local and network news professionals in broadcasting, cable and other electronic media in more than 30 countries. The award, named after broadcast pioneer Edward R. Murrow, is one of the highest honors a broadcast journalist can receive. Blumberg’s entry competed against television stations in Iowa, Kansas, Missouri and Nebraska. This is his first regional Edward R. Murrow Award.
Blumberg was selected to receive this distinguished award for his story, “Tiger Toilets.” The story is about a local contractor with a new found passion for hand-painting Mizzou-inspired toilets, and the Tiger fans who buy them. A link to this award-winning story can be found at the bottom of this release.
“The Edward R. Murrow Award is such a great honor,” said KOMU 8 General Manager Marty Siddall. “We are very proud of Eric and his ability to tell such vivid stories. Who knew a story about toilets could be so much fun to watch?”
"Eric always does a great job catching up with some true mid-Missouri characters,” said KOMU 8 News Director Stacey Woelfel. “In this case, he not only found an interesting subject, but one that we could all laugh along with, too."
Blumberg’s story will go on to compete for a national Murrow Award to be given out on October.
