Uniforms for Saturdays are limited to Tropical Blue unless otherwise stated below.

No uniform is required of students on Friday or Sunday. Instructors will be in uniform.

All uniforms must be correct in every respect; if you do not have a correct uniform, please do not wear it.

Seamanship (AUXSEA): Teaches knowledge of vessels and their propulsion systems as well as detailed information on how vessels are constructed, founded, and operated. Graduates will understand how vessels must be handled in normal and heavy weather, how to approach distress situations, duties and manners related to vessel operation. Class runs Friday October 12 from 1900, and from 0830 Saturday and Sunday October 13-14. This course is required for AUXOP.

Communications (AUXCOM): Provides administrative, technical and operational foundations in VHF-FM and Single Sideband marine radio systems. This is the recently released course. Study materials may be downloaded from Class runs Friday October 12 from 1900, and from 0830 Saturday and Sunday October 13th and 14. This course is required for AUXOP.

Patrols (AUXPAT) : Focuses upon the complete spectrum of operational patrol activities both on the water and in the air. This includes Safety Patrols, Search and Rescue (SAR), Regatta spectator safety control (powerboat race, sailboat race, rowing race, etc.) and Chart Updating/Aids to Navigation Patrols. Class runs Friday October 12 from 1900, and from 0830 Saturday and Sunday October 13th and 14. This course is credited as 1 elective point toward AUXOP Status.

Weather (AUXWEA): Provides a comprehensive knowledge of weather processes and effects, especially those of danger to mariners such as thunderstorms, squall lines, fog, tornadoes, hurricanes and other severe phenomena. Also teaches forecasting techniques and how to avoid hazardous weather. Class runs Friday, October 19 from 1900 and Saturday and Sunday from 0830 - This course is required for AUXOP.

Navigation Part B (AUXNAV B): Uses a hypothetical cruise problem, completed at home prior to ASW and reinforced in the classroom, to teach and refine the practical application of navigation skills and techniques introduced during AUXNAV A.

Course runs Friday, October 19 from 1900 and Saturday and Sunday from 0830 . NAV B (combined with A) is credited as 2 elective points toward AUXOP.

Introduction to Marine Safety & Environmental Protection-2ed (IMSEP-2):

Teaches basic knowledge of the history, organization, and missions of the USCG involvement in the MS& EP regulatory function, and describes how Auxiliarists may work to assist the gold side.This presentation is gratuitous (not required), but is a "how-to" toprepare for taking the unusual on-line exam. (Exam not taken during the class.)Study materials must be downloaded. Class runs all day Saturday only April 28 beginning at 0830. Passing the exam is a pre-requisite for both the Marine Safety Training Ribbon andthe TRIDENT device. IMSEP is credited as 2 elective points toward AUXOP.

Auxiliary Prevention Outreach Specialist Performance Qualification Standard (PQS) –The Specialist title was formerly dubbed AUX-MEES. This class teaches the basics of environmental protection and marine safety. Auxiliarists will be provided the skill sets necessary to implement pollution prevention programs locally and teach the concepts to the public. The course provides a basic grounding in the science such that students with no prior knowledge of the subject area may begin to understand the breadth and depth of marine environmental education.

Students are strongly encouraged to complete as many of the on-line, open book correspondence course items listed in the PQS and should come prepared to conduct a short Practical Presentation Saturday afternoon/evening as per Item 5.1 in the PQS. Students must download and bring printed versions of the Student Study Guide and PQS Workbook as found on the Prevention Web Site (http://pdept.cgaux.org/msPQS.html). Search & Rescue (AUXSC&E): NOTE: The AUXSCE course is four days long and will be taught over two consecutive weekends beginning 0800 Saturday October 13 and Sunday the 14th and the following weekend, 1900 Friday October 19 and from 0800 Saturday October 20 and Sunday October 21.

AUXSC&E teaches the latest USCG SAR systems and procedures and the Auxiliary’s probable roles. Students must have the skills to plot positions and courses and to do time, speed and distance calculations accurately and quickly.A prospective student who has not completed AUXNAV A & B/AUXACN must demonstrate this knowledge by other means acceptable to the lead Instructor as per the AUXMAN. Judy Julian is the lead Instructorand will require those students to complete a proctored test prior to being enrolled officially. Contact Judy Julian, regarding eligibility and to arrange to complete a proctored test before the class registration deadline; it is the student's responsibility to arrange the AUXOP Proctor and test date and to furnish the name and postal mailing address of same to Judy Julian. Approval to take the course must be obtained by October 1. Student study materials will be provided by the Instructor. AUXSC&E is credited as 2 elective points toward AUXOP.

Auxiliary Telecommunications: ThePerformance Qualification Standard (PQS) is a task-oriented qualification guide, designed to provide the members with focused training and enhanced skills in radio communications. Successful completion of the PQS will qualify the candidate as a Telecommunications Operator (TCO).Content of the class includes basic radio operation and procedures,managing communications from Coast Guard to Coast Guard,and handling radio traffic with boaters. You will also become familiar with Rescue 21, DSCand other newer technologies used by the USCG.Study materials must be downloaded as prescribed by the Instructor. Uniform is ODU--expect to spend much of the class outdoors operating radio equipment. Class runs from 1900 Friday October 19 and 0830 Saturday and Sunday October 20-21.

AUXCHEF Basic Class: This course teaches the basic knowledge and skills necessary to become qualified as an AUXCHEF in order to assist or fill in for a Food Services Specialist at a Coast Guard unit. The course includes classroom work covering food preparation, nutrition, sanitation, and food safety among other topics. As a “hands-on” exercise, the class will also plan and prepare a meal at a Coast Guard Station. More information will be provided at the class. The uniform will be ODUs for Saturday and Sunday, with an apron if desired.

Challenge Testing: October 14th and 21st-- there will be opportunities for members to challenge the following Course exams. WEATHER, PATROLS, COMMUNICATIONS, SEAMANSHIP, and NAV A and B. IN ORDER TO CHALLENGE AN EXAM YOU MUST ALSO REGISTER BY OCTOBER 1.
