Senior – Graduate Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders

Purpose

The purpose of the Senior-Graduate Program in Communication Sciences and Disorders is to allow exceptional undergraduate students to begin taking advanced coursework as seniors, and allow them to complete the graduate program in less than the typical two-year period.

Minimum Criteria to Apply

  1. Anticipated completion of at least 90 credits including 24 credits in Communication Sciences and Disorders by the end of the spring 2017 semester.
  2. An overall or major (COMDIS prefix) GPA of 3.60.

Application Procedures

If you intend to apply send an e-mail to Dr. DePaul at indicating that you will be applying to the program by Wednesday, March 1, 2017 (Tentative – to be determined).

In the subject line of your e-mail denote Accelerated Program Intent.

The actual application should be submitted as an e-mail attachment to Dr. DePaul no later than Wednesday, March 1, 2017 (tentative) in a word file format with the subject line: Accelerated Program Application.

  1. Prepare a document with this information on a separate title page:
  1. Name
  2. Local and permanent addresses
  3. UWW e-mail address
  4. Phone number where you may be reached
  5. Availability for a personal interview during spring 2017 semester (days, time).
  1. Starting on the second page write a two page double-spaced Personal Statement consisting of:
  1. Reason for pursuing the program and graduate degree
  2. Self-evaluation of academic abilities including your ability to complete the senior-graduate program
  3. Career goals.
  1. Send a pdfcopy of a paper that was completed for a university level course outside of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
  1. Include your resume.

Evaluation Process

From the available pool of students we may choose 0 to several students to be included in this program.

Acceptance in the program will be dependent on multiple factors including the number of places available following the CSDCAS application process for students with degrees, the competitiveness of your grades, writing ability, clinical performance, disposition (interpersonal skills and character), and progress in the major, and organizational and time management skills. If accepted to this program, and satisfactory progress is made in academic course work and clinical education, an acceptance to the graduate program will be offered at the end of the undergraduate degree completion.

SENIORS TAKING GRADUATE COURSES

UW-Whitewaterundergraduate students with senior status may be allowed to complete up to 9 graduate units at UW-Whitewater, provided they have completed at least 90 units with at least a 2.75 overall grade point average (or 2.90 over the last half of their course work), have the written recommendation of the department chairperson of their undergraduate major, and have a graduate application on file in the Graduate Studies Office. Eligibility for this privilege must be established with the Graduate Studies Office and is not available to seniors at other institutions or to students who already possess a bachelor’s degree. Seniors may not use graduate-level units to satisfy requirements for the bachelor’s degree, and undergraduate fees will be charged for their graduate-level work.
